Yelp Elite Event: Super Shisha Sunday at 7 Lounge

7 Lounge hookah bar

7 Lounge located at 4411 Hwy 7 in Woodbridge

October 15, 2017:  This past Sunday, I attended a Yelp Elite Event at 7 Lounge in Vaughan/Woodbridge.  7 Lounge is a hookah bar.  I’ve never been to a hookah bar (or smoked anything in my life for that matter) so even though it was outside of the usual places I’d go to, considering it was a Yelp Elite Event, I thought it was the best safe/controlled opportunity to experience something new like this.

The event ran from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on the Sunday evening.  When Ken and I arrived around 6:15 p.m., the event was in full swing and nearly all of the tables were already occupied.  Host Kris was kindly able to assist us and put us to a table with other Yelpers and their guests.

7 Lounge primarily services as a bar for patrons to come in and enjoy hookah.  They serve food and (alcoholic) drinks too.  There were sofas and couches as well as regular tables and chairs where the hookahs were placed around the room.  We had two communal hookahs at our table.  We were given our own green plastic mouthpiece that was inserted into the main hose.

A hookah is a water pipe essentially.  I didn’t know anything about what hookahs were before this visit.  What you do is you suck through the tube which draws down smoke from the down stem.  There is a bowl on top of the structure that is covered with a perforated foil sheet.  There were hot coals put on top of this which usually allows the tobacco in the bowl to heat up and smoke.  For this Yelp event, it was a non-nicotine hookah — otherwise if it was nicotine, I definitely wouldn’t have participated.

Here is a picture of how a hookah looks like and its parts:

After trying it two times, I was done.  I wasn’t particularly interested in this activity and found the smoke (whatever it was flavoured with) strong and musky.  I felt it in the back of my throat when I sucked it in and it made me cough.  I’m a newb obviously XD.

What ours looked like

There was a DJ pumping out music all night long.  There were board games on the tables for everyone to play while taking in hookah whenever they liked.

We were served drinks of our choice (non-alcoholic as it was a dry event).  The servers produced snacks for us that night too.

We had some in-house Smoked Chicken Wings with carrot and celery, Buffalo Chicken Bites, Fish Tacos, and finished up with Apple Fritters for dessert.  There were a lot of Yelp paraphernalia too for us to take home.

The Smoked Chicken Wings were unfortunately cold when they came out… and the smoked flavour wasn’t up to my liking.  The Buffalo Chicken Bites were cheesy and actually a lot spicier than I expected!  I really liked the Fish Tacos.  The fish was really crispy and the tortilla was good too with the guacamole.  The Apple Fritters were nice and hot and tasted good too.

Kris and Amy did a good job organizing the event and making sure it was an enjoyable one for us all.  I’m glad that I got to experience a hookah for the first time.  I’m quite sure I’ll never voluntarily partake in it again as it’s not something that’s up my alley or interest but definitely I was glad to have tried it.

(Apparently, from reading the post-event feedback on the Yelp event page, there were different flavours of the hookah that night.  We only tried the one that was at our table!  Oops.  Someone mentioned the mango one was fruity and sweet… interesting!)
