Thick Pork Chop Bun at Yuen Long Bistro

January 11, 2019 8:30 pm

January 10, 2019:

While in the Tsim Sha Tsui area and passing 2 p.m., we stopped into Yuen Long Bistro (元朗冰室) for some Hong Kong style food. Earlier, we had passed by this Hong Kong style cafe at 1 p.m. and there was a line-up. I’m glad that we were able to get seated right away after the lunch rush hour had passed.

We were initially drawn to this HK style cafe from their poster advertising a $39 HKD fried pigeon deal. Once inside and looking through their extensive menus, we realized they are well-known for their thick pork chops. This HK style cafe has been around since 1991 and has many branches around Hong Kong.
We ordered the Thick Pork Chop Bun with Spicy Homemade Sauce ($45 HKD) and the Fried Pigeon ($39 HKD). The pork chop included a drink, of which we chose hot lemon water. Utensils were self-serve in a pull-out drawer at our table.
I wasn’t expecting much of the Thick Pork Chop Bun but it exceeded my expectations and more. It was a big thick pork chop sandwiched between two loaves of bread with a slice of tomato and a few cucumbers and a white sauce on the plate.
We cut it in half and I ate it with my hands. The pork chop was so juicy, moist, and perfectly done!! It was so delicious. It paired so well with the soft yet not soggy bun. The sauce wasn’t spicy at all as specified but a complementing somewhat tarty sauce. Yum!! It wasn’t greasy at all and I wanted seconds after this.
The Fried Pigeon was good for the price, no doubt. It was definitely on the small size and still decent. It came with some greens on the side.
The Pork Chop Bun definitely overshadowed the pigeon.
The table of three females next to us each ordered a plate of French fries and a giant pork chop each. Clearly, the locals know this place as pork chop city. 🤗

  2. […] Kong style pork bun. I was curious about how theirs would taste like after having that wonderfully delicious one at Yuen Long Bistro. The fish tofu puffs were tasty with the soup all soaked into it. The rice noodles were good too. […]

  3. […] The $39 fried pigeon was small and didn’t contain much meat on its small frame. It was a good deal for fried pigeon in general though, like the one we had at Yuen Long Bistro last week. […]
