Week 170 motherhood – playdate, 1 year old!, first dinner date in a year

Pumpkin cake celebrating one year of breastfeeding

Happy one year of breastfeeding to me!

Week 170 motherhood of 3 year old and 1 year old!

  • December 14 to 20, 2023:
  • We had a playdate with DH’s friend’s 2 daughters.  It was so funny that once we entered the home, the toddler went straight towards the back of the house where the playroom was.  We had been here twice before and she knew exactly where to go.  Love how they prepared a cookie decorating activity for the older girls.  Love seeing their younger child grow and how smart she is now.
  • DH set up the Christmas tree in the family room as well as the blow-up Santa.  The toddler remembered it from last year.  Interestingly, the baby is scared of the fake Santa too!
  • The baby is now 1 year old!  So technically I have two toddlers now?!  Haha.
  •  It’s surreal that she is one year old already.  We thought back to a year ago how we were driving to the hospital early in the morning to have her induced.  She is still like a baby to us.  She still feeds often and is “baby-ish” haha.
  • The grandparents celebrated the baby’s first birthday by going for a buffet lunch.  The toddler was clingy and stuck to grandma and actually fell asleep during lunch.  She woke up later and enjoyed the complimentary bread at the table.
  • DH made a cake for the baby to smash!  An egg cake comprised of 3 layers with raspberries and strawberry yogurt.  Very ingenious and baby-friendly.
  • The baby took the first layer of the cake and bit into it and did devour quite a lot of it.
  • We used the same birthday decor that the toddler had when it was her first birthday.  We almost forgot to take the photos with it actually, but I’m glad we ended up doing it because I don’t want the kids to look back and feel like their birthdays were not special — they are super special to us.  And thus also marks the end of the monthly milestone photos for the secondborn.  All done!
  • DH got me a pumpkin flavour cake from Honey Honey Cakery to recognize my efforts of breastfeeding for one year.  He did it Hollywood themed by making an “Oscar” of a woman figure breastfeeding a baby and even made me a sign for it too. ^_^  Best husband.
  • We went out for our very first dinner date out since the secondborn was born too.  It was really nice.  We almost didn’t make it because the toddler and baby were acting up but I’m so glad we decided to have our date night.  It was nice to eat and chat without the kids for once.
  • We had the final Creative Chefs class at the Thornhill EarlyON location where the kids made fruit crepe rolls.  We were again unfortunately late to this class and by the time we arrived, the kids were already lining up to get the ingredients.  They each had a pita, slathered with yogurt, and then put an assortment of fruits of their choice.  The toddler got mango, blueberries, kiwi, strawberries, and banana.  She did an amazing job cutting up the fruits.  I see a gigantic improvement from when she first started to use a knife.  She arranged all the fruits on her pita so beautifully too.
  • DH repaired the wooden walker for the baby to use so she can start practising how to walk.
  • The baby loves playing with the box of socks.  She can play with it for a good amount of time independently.
  • The baby has started to use her hand to clutch at my breast and then bringing it to her mouth when nursing.  It’s cute and smart.
