Be sure to occasionally check the math on the Flashfood service fee because it’s apparent that the company reserves the right to make changes to that fee without notice of any kind; mine went from 8% to 9% (before applicable HST) on March 30/26; so far all increases, no decreases!
How long before their fees totally offset the savings that they claim that they’re offering? (the App calculates your accumulated App savings for you, but for some reason, that calculation neglects to take into account their fees or related taxes!)
Oh yikes!! Thank you for letting me know! I’m actually not surprised since they put a blanket service fee now and it’s subject to change at their whim. So disappointing.
My guess is that they don’t want to talk about it/admit it, but they’ve now adopted a dynamic service fee model, where they assign different service fee % to each of their customers based on the customer use pattern, the objective being to maximize the total amount of savings that they’re able to capture from users trying to save money using their app.
Obviously, the more effort that you put into logging in to check for sales, the more you buy and pick up, the more service fees you pay to Flashfood, but that’s apparently not good enough for them – it’s also apparently a great opportunity for Flashfood to really mine that personal effort for their own profit by targeting frequent users! (sorry, I meant to be able to cover their ever increasing operating costs; because economies of scale as their business grows don’t apply to them!).
Think of it as the opposite of a loyalty program where the more you do business, the more loyalty points you get; with Flashfood, the more business you do on their app, the higher the % fee you have to pay them for using it!
I checked my receipts from my orders on Flashfood this past week and it still showed as 8%. This really sucks if they are treating their most loyal customers like this!!
May I suggest that you create a new account and see if your service fee drops back down to 8%?
