My Too Good to Go hauls in September 2023

Download the Too Good To Go app to save food from going to waste and for some great food deals.  This month, I tried mostly surprise bags from brand new stores to the app.  It has been very exciting to see TGTG expand and new stores joining as partners!

Here are my Too Good to Go hauls in September 2023 (14 surprise bags): 

September 1, 2023:

Hattendo 八天堂 TGTG $7.99 surprise bag

• Pick up time:  4 to 7:30 p.m.
• Surprise Bag of Heavenly Pastries:  $7.99 plus tax = $9.03
• Contents:  6 Japanese Chilled Cream Buns:  2 mango ($4.19 each), 1 whipped cream ($3.89), 2 amaou strawberry, 2 azuki bean ($3.89 each).  (Box of 5 cream buns is $18.69.)  Total value: $27.83. ✅
• I’ve had these cream filled buns from Hattendo before.  Very soft fluffy buns filled with cold flavoured cream.  The best ones were the mango and azuki bean.  The mango tasted very sweet and fragrant and the azuki bean was rich and sweet.

Crust Baking Company TGTG $6.99 surprise bag

• Crust Baking Company

• Pick up time:  5 to 6 p.m.
• Surprise Bag:  $6.99 (no tax)
• Contents:  1 ham, cheese, egg quiche ($10); 1 muffin; 1 Pain Au Raisin; 1 apple Danish; 1 apricot frangipane tart ($6); 4 soft buns; 1 rustic potato sourdough bread ($7).
• This was a sporadic and lucky pickup.  Usually, the surprise bags from Crust are sold out instantaneously daily, but I was on the app at the right time and saw two bags available.  Luckily, the hubs was already going to be in that area at that time to pick up the above surprise bag and I knew he could make it, so I purchased it right away.
• My second surprise bag from Crust!  (Got the first one in February.)  I knew and expected a motherload of items and we were thrilled with the contents.  The savoury tart was delicious upon heating it up.  The buns were so SO soft and light.  The sourdough bread was so soft inside like a “crab claw”.  Loved this bag!

September 6, 2023:

The Bake House TGTG $7.99 surprise bag

• Surprise Baked goods (Light):  $7.99 plus tax = $9.03
• Contents:  2 chocolate donuts, 1 sweet pastry, 1 Portuguese tart $1.50, 3 almond croissants, 4 macarons $8.66 (1 chocolate, 2 raspberry, 1 vanilla).
• So, so delicious.  The pastries were still fresh and soft.  The almond croissants had a light almond filling inside of them.  The macarons were incredibly light and flaky, some of the best shells I’ve had.  Pleasantly surprised with this bag!

September 7, 2023:

Maki Mart TGTG $6.99 surprise bag

• Pick up time:  6 to 7:30 p.m.
• Surprise Bag:  $6.99 (no tax)
• Contents:  8 handrolls with accompanying soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger:  2 mentaiko scallop ($4.95 each), 2 tuna corn ($3.95 each), sweet corn, seaweed salad, 2 tuna mayo ($2.95 each).  Total value:  $29.60. ✅
• So, so happy to get this bag!  Maki Mart opened just recently and joined TGTG right away.  I had seen them post a bag or two on the app but wasn’t fast enough to get it until today!  (They had a $5.99 bag.  I think this $6.99 one is relatively new so not many people favourited it yet.  I saw 3 bags still lingering and waiting for someone to rescue them after I bought mine at 6:30-ish p.m.)
• Very crunchy seaweed (with ingenious packaging to keep it fresh); chewy and nicely flavoured Japanese rice.  Quality taste!  I would get this bag again!

September 9, 2023:

Fresh Foodie TGTG $7.99 surprise bag

• Surprise Bag:  $7.99 (no tax)
• Contents:  2 Low Carb Lemon Piccata Chicken with Veggies ($15.50 each), Turkey & Scallion Burger with Sweet Potato Fries & Kale Salad ($15.25).  Total value:  $46.25. ✅
• All 3 packages had a BB date of September 8, but they still tasted fine when we heated them up to eat on the 10th.  Really clean, healthy and low carb/keto friendly as advertised.  Amazing value too!  It reminds me of the Fit Meal Canada meals, but these portions are much better and bigger.  The turkey & scallion burger was especially delicious.  I would buy this surprise bag again.

Guilty Pleasurez Dezzert Cafe TGTG $6.99 surprise bag

• Pick up time:  4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
• Assorted Baked Goods:  $6.99 plus tax = $7.90
• Contents:  4 decorated sugar cookies ($3.50 each), 4 unfrosted cupcakes.  (Frosted cupcakes are $4 each.)
• Cute “3-tier wedding cake” sugar cookies tasted good.  Nice vanilla and chocolate cupcakes — dense and not overly sweet.

Beyoglu Kebab TGTG $5.99 surprise bag

• Beyoglu Kebab
• 5731 Hwy 7, Woodbridge
• Pick up time:  11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• Prepared Food:  $5.99 plus tax = $6.77.
• Contents:  1 container of Chicken Shish (chicken on rice).  Total value:  $17.99.
• The food was prepared on the spot when I arrived at this restaurant serving Mediterranean Turkish cuisine.  Long waiting time to get my food and it was awkward standing at the cashier area because the staff had odd looks and smiles.  I think I saw the staff shaving the chicken from the rotating spit.  The food was piping hot.  Shallow portion of food.  Taste was fine.

Cake Your Way TGTG $4.99 surprise bag

• Pick up time:  5 to 6 p.m.
• Small Surprise Bag:  $4.99 plus tax = $5.64
• Contents:  4 frosted vanilla cupcakes ($2.50 each).  Total value:  $10. ❌
• Cute boutique with plastic floating chairs.  After informing the staff about my TGTG order, he asked me to wait and went to the back of the store where I think I saw him freshly piping the frosting on the cupcakes.  The frosting was very light and fresh.  The vanilla cupcake itself was very soft and light too.

September 16, 2023:

Edible Arrangements TGTG $4.99 surprise bag

Some of the cantaloupe and honeydew and nearly all of the pineapple (we served it at the party so some of the fruits are already gone)

• Cutout Fruit Bag:  $4.99 plus tax = $5.64
• Contents:  large plastic bag of pineapple cutouts, some cantaloupe and honeydew cutouts; 1 strawberry.
• The pineapple was very yellow and sweet this time around.  Most of the bag was all pineapple.  There was actually not much cantaloupe and honeydew this time around.  Funny that there was a single strawberry in the bag.

September 28, 2023:

Metro TGTG $6.99 surprise bag

• Metro (20 Church Ave)

• Pick up time:  3 to 6 p.m.
• Assorted Fruit & Salad:  $6.99 plus tax = $7.90
• Contents:  Large Garden Simply Salad $10.99, Asian Island Crunch salad kit $5.99, Sweet Kale salad kit $5.99, Half Papaya $2.88.  Total value: $25.85.  ✅
• Decent selection.  The sweet kale salad kit had spinach leaves that were starting to go.  The other two salads were fine.  The papaya was not due until the day after pickup.

September 30, 2023:

Little Sweet Bakery TGTG $11.99 surprise bag

• Pick up time:  12:30 to 2 p.m.
• Big Surprise Bag:  $11.99 plus tax = $13.55
• Contents:  2 Soy Mochis ($11.95), 2 Strawberry Mochis ($11.95), 3 dacquoise (2 Fragrant Jasmine, Hazelnut Chocolate)($4.75 each).  Total value: $38.15.  ✅
• I finally got to try their dacquoises!  I was hoping to try it in the second surprise bag I got from them before but didn’t, so this third time was the charm!  The dacquoises are like a cross between an macaron with soft pillowy cake.  It was really good and unique!  The mochis were stored in the freezer this time and put at room temperature and ready to eat upon pickup; they would have tasted better if they hadn’t been in the freezer beforehand.  It was still nice to try the soy and strawberry mochi flavours.

Baker Duck TGTG $4.99 surprise bag

• Pick up time:  10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Assorted Baked Goods:  $4.99 plus tax = $5.64
• Contents:  6 assorted Chinese buns.
• The chocolate “brick” one was new this time for me.  Also haven’t eaten a coconut cream bun in a long time.

TJ Produce TGTG mangos $4.99 surprise bag

• TJ Produce (Scarborough)
• Unit 7, 31 Melford Dr., Scarborough
• Pick up time:  12 to 5 p.m.
• Fresh mangos 芒果盲盒:  $4.99 (no tax)
• Contents:  9 mangoes.
• Very plump and fresh mangos.  However, my mom who ate them said they weren’t good and kind of flavourless due to them having been previously frozen.

TJ Produce TGTG $7.99 cake surprise bag

• TJ Produce (Scarborough)
• Unit 7, 31 Melford Dr., Scarborough
• Pick up time:  11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• King’s Pastry Surprise Bag 蛋糕盲盒:  $7.99 plus tax = $9.03
• Contents:  63 pieces of King’s Pastry branded Raspberry Mousse Cake.
• Wow, there really were 63 individually pre-cut slices of raspberry mousse cake when I opened the cardboard box!  They tasted good and not too sweet.  The hubs said they resembled the dessert squares that you would see at buffet restaurants.
