Authentic Vietnamese cuisine in the GTA! My friend V brought me to this location of Pho Anh Vu in Richmond Hill for dinner last week and I loved it so much that I immediately knew I wanted to come back to try more items with my family.
Pho Anh Vu had their first original location in Mississauga and since then has expanded to many locations across the GTA. In fact, they are opening new stores in Montreal and downtown Toronto this year too!
Upon walking into the restaurant, I was impressed with the beautiful decor (like the faux tree with pink cherry blossoms in the entrance area) and the woodsy nature feel that the faux plants in the restaurant gave me. It was really comfortable and modern.
All of the utensils were already on the table but the staff also give you a packaged set of chopsticks too. They also have condiments on the table like your usual seafood sauce and sriracha sauce but also items like pickled garlic and peppers.
I ordered item #48 Grilled Pork, Spring Rolls with Vermicelli Noodles for $17.95. This was a big bowl that was more than enough for me to eat. I actually had leftovers too. The grilled pork flakes were so flavourful and tender and the vermicelli was exactly the type I like — soft and thin. The fish sauce that accompanied it was perfect too.
My friend really enjoyed what she got too. If I remember correctly, she got #58 Hanoi Style Vermicelli Noodles with Grilled Pork for $19.95.

Vietnamese Rice Paper Wraps with Grilled Pork, Grilled Shrimp, Shrimp on Sugarcane, Spring Roll, Vermicelli, and Vegetables $31.95
When we returned for dinner with my family recently, we ordered the item #61 Vietnamese Rice Paper Wraps with Grilled Pork, Grilled Shrimp, Shrimp on Sugarcane, Spring Roll, Vermicelli, and Vegetables for $31.95. This was a big platter fit for sharing (for probably 4 to 6 people). I have had rice paper wraps before (but not often because I am not always down to eating with my hands) and this was the first time that I saw them provide a clever container with the dry rice paper on one side and hot water on the other.
In order to eat your wraps, you have to first moisten the rice paper in the water for a new seconds. It is a fun activity and the rice paper was so chewy and held the ingredients perfectly. The platter looked exactly like the photo in the menu too. We all enjoyed this platter.
We also got the item #34 from the Broken Rice category: Grilled Chicken and Fried Egg on Broken Rice for $15.95. The nicely grilled chicken was treated with lemongrass and tasted very tender. The broken rice was definitely crumbly and tasted good with sauce.
The husband got a cup of Vietnamese Coffee with Condensed Milk and Ice for $5.95 too which he said was very rich.
Lastly, we tried their #10 item Fish Sauce Fried Chicken Wings with Sticky Rice for $15. This takes 20 minutes to prepare and arrived piping hot to our table. The chicken wings were on the sweeter side. I liked the warm chewy sticky rice. It’s not often that we eat sticky rice so this felt like such a treat.
Pho Anh Vu has so many other items on their menu, including a specialty one that they only serve at their Richmond Hill location. I definitely plan to come back.
Despite a higher price on food items, I think the large portion and good quality makes up for it. The staff are also attentive and efficient. The restaurant offers free wifi too! They have plenty of 2-person tables, a fair number of 4-person tables, and a limited number of large party tables. If you are looking to dine here with a large family, make sure to arrive early or call to make a reservation! There is plenty of parking in the plaza.
Have you ever tried this restaurant or their many outposts in the GTA?
