Oh, no. The 5% service fee has kicked in on the Flashfood app officially (as of May 1, 2024). Sigh. I don’t know why they have to tax on top of the 5% fee. It makes a $3 box become $3.15 after the fee and then $3.17 after tax… Or a $5 box become $5.28. 😦
Also, when I emailed Flashfood for a refund request (for a missing item), their automatic email now says it could take up to 7 days for a response from them. It used to say 2 to 3 days. This is proof that Flashfood is getting more popular than before. Yay! Now when are new stores going to join Flashfood?!
My referral code is KARE4PEFC. When your first order is over $10, then we will both get $5 back!
Here’s what I got from the Flashfood app in May 2024:
May 2:
No Frills (Warden/Hwy 7):
- Banana chocolate chip muffin bars $2.24 (original price: $4.49). After service fee and tax, paid $2.36.
These small banana bread bars were really good. We finished 4 bars in one day. Perfect snack for the kids and the adults.
Loblaws Richmond Hill:
- 2L of 0% lactose free milk $2.94 (original price: $6.29). After service fee and tax, paid $3.11.
May 3:
Loblaws Richmond Hill:
- Fruit Box (5 boxes of strawberries) $3. Paid $3.17.
These strawberries were really fresh! First time getting these open box ones as opposed to the ones in plastic containers.
- Veggie Box (9 stalks of asparagus) $3. Paid $3.17.
We ate two stalks for dinner the first night and they were very fine and fresh — not coarse at all.
- Veggie Box (4 bunches of broccoli) $3. Paid $3.17.
May 4:
Loblaws Richmond Hill:
- 473ml of 3.25% milk $0.24 (original price: $2.49) x2,

- Minigo $0.24 (original price: $4.29),
- 1% strawberry kefir probiotic drink $2.94 (original price: $5.79).
-
- Paid $4.13 for five items.
-
Felt really lucky to see these products go up live on the app for us to buy. Five items like this for $4-ish is so cheap.
- Arctic char fillet $9.64 (original price: $19.28),
- Atlantic salmon fillet $5.65 (original price: $11.30).
- Paid $16.15 for both.
May 5:
No Frills (Yonge/16th):
- Atlantic BBQ salmon kebabs $5 (original price: $10),
- Atlantic salmon $5 (original price: $10).
- Paid $10.57 for both.
This was nice to try these products out. I’ve never had the marinated BBQ salmon kebabs before. They tasted really good. It’s a shame that this No Frills posted these items so late in the day that no one else bought them. I hate seeing Flashfood products being left on the app (which will go to landfill at the end of the day if unpurchased).

- Paid $9.67 for both.
May 9:
Loblaws Richmond Hill:
- Fruit Box (4 packs of strawberries) $3. Paid $3.17.
Unfortunately, these strawberries were terribly moldy. One pack was entirely molded and had to be thrown away. The other three packs were in various states of mold too. This was one of the worst Flashfood hauls to date because so much of it was inedible. 😦
I e-mailed Flashfood to inform them about this and they gave me a full refund.
- Veggie Box (4 packs of English cucumbers) $3. Paid $3.17.
- Veggie Box (salads: arugula & baby spinach x2, baby spinach, romaine salad, spring mix salad kit) $3. Paid $3.17.

- Paid $3.19 for three items.
Loblaws Richmond Hill:
- Fruit Box (8 boxes of raspberries, 5 bananas) $3. Paid $3.17.
So deceiving because the picture on Flashfood only showed 2 boxes of raspberries and some bananas in the paper bag. It isn’t until you get the bag in person that you realize that there are so many boxes of raspberries in the bottom. What an amazing score. Two boxes had half moldy/questionable raspberries though.
- Mixed Produce Box (4 mangoes, 9 peppers, 1 apple, 5 apricots, 4 passion fruits, 7 apple mangoes) $3. Paid $3.17.
No Frills (Warden/Hwy 7):
- BBQ chicken kebab $5 (original price: $10),

Fun to try a new snack! They’re essentially the same ones as the Trader Joe’s Inner Peas.

- Mixed Produce Box (14 onions, bag of purple onions) $2.88. Paid $3.04.
- Sourdough Loaf $1.64 (original price: $3.29). Paid $1.73.
My child loved eating this bread, calling it the “sun bread”.

No Frills (Silver Star/Steeles):
- Mixed Produce Box (3 bags of 4 hass avocados, 3 bags of 4lb honey crisp apples) $10. Paid $10.57.
I waited too long to eat some of the avocados and they were soft and moldy by the time I got to them. 😦
- Mixed Produce Box (1 pear, 20 peppers, 2 bags of purple onions, corn) $5. Paid $5.28.
My friend was able to pick up this box for me. I asked her to take some peppers because I had so many (she took 4 — not pictured).
May 24:

I feel like I can’t ever pay full price for these quiches again. 😅
May 26:
Real Canadian Superstore (Dufferin/Steeles):
- Kosher turkey drumsticks $5.24 (original price: $10.82),
- Snap peas $2.94 (original price: $5.88),
- Turkey Lunchables $0.75 (original price: $3.50) x2,
- 1.5 L of 1% milk, Nature’s Best $1.24 (original price: $4.98).
- Paid $11.54 for these five items.
Felt like I had to “save” the turkey lunchables from going to landfill too. They were going to expire and there were so many of them left in stock. Might have well get 2 for my child…
No Frills (Warden/Hwy 7):
- Oatmeal cookies $2.75 (original price: $5.50). Paid $2.91.
May 27:
Loblaws Richmond Hill:

- Icelandic Cod Fillets $4.65 (original price: $9.30),
- Strawberry yogurt $0.74 (original price: $5.99).
- Paid $5.69 for two items.
May 31:
No Frills (Warden/Hwy 7):
- Mixed Produce Box (Shanghai choy, white mushrooms) $1.88. Paid $1.99.
This produce box was posted two days ago and cost $3. There were 3 left (12 in total) so I waited until they slashed the price on the last day. Quality is still good. They keep their produce in the fridge, so whether I bought it two days ago at $3 and put it in my fridge at home or waited until now to get the discount is the same, so that’s why I waited to buy it at lower price.
- Hamburger buns $2 (original price: $3.99),
- Banana chocolate chip muffin bars $2.49 (original price: $4.99).
- Paid $4.74 for two items.
It’s funny because we started off the month of May with these banana bread bars and also ending the month with them. We ate them so quickly the first time that the husband never got to try one. Now we bought them again and he definitely should eat one before it’s all gone again!
