New year, new look for Flashfood!
Flashfood unveiled their newest logo for their discounted food service (buying items about to pass its “best before date” at savings of 50% off). I liked their previous logo with the lightning symbol and groceries. This one doesn’t look so unique (it blends into the other icons on my phone). Some people say it looks like a lock.
I also thought that it doesn’t look so grocery-related anymore that perhaps they could expand their discounts of “best before/expired” items to non-food too? Things like face cream, moisturizers, cleaning products, et cetera perhaps. That would be really cool. But then their name is “Flashfood” so would they have to change their name too?
I hope this updated logo means that they have a bigger budget than before and will expand to more supermarkets and store in 2024 and beyond. I’d really love to see big stores like Walmart, Food Basics, Freshco, T&T, Petsmart, Foody Mart, Oceans, and many others join the fight against food waste.
Don’t forget you can use my referral code KARE4PEFC. If your first purchase is over $10, then we’ll both get $5 in rewards!
Anyway, here’s what I got from Flashfood grocery stores in January 2024 (spent $325.03):

Such a great deal for the club pack of black forest ham! We divided it up into three packages and froze two of them for later use.
January 6:
Real Canadian Superstore (Dufferin/Steeles):
- Plain Bagels $0.99 (original price: $1.99),
- Whole Wheat Sliced Bread $1 (original price: $2.50),
- 2L of Organic Skim Milk $3.49 (original price: $6.99).
Loblaws High Tech:

- Blue Cheese Wheel $2.61 (original price: $5.23),
- Steelhead Trout $6.18 (original price $12.36),
- Tilapia $6.08 (original price $12.16).
Loved that I got some blue cheese from Flashfood!
- Mixed Produce Box (26 tangerines) $5.
January 12:
No Frills (Warden/Hwy 7):
- Mixed Produce Box (3 radishes, Chinese greens) $2.50.
Loblaws (High Tech):
- Turkey Drumsticks $4.57 (original price: $9.14),
- Chicken Leg Club Pack $5.43 (original price: $10.87).
- Mixed Produce Box (1 pack blueberries, 2 packs strawberries, 8 apples, 4 oranges) $5.
What I purchased was actually different in the photo on the app. Unfortunately, they said they couldn’t find the exact bag. Thus, they had an employee to run and repack a bag replicated to look like the one I originally bought. The one I originally bought had blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries! So frustrating when this happens.
January 15:
Loblaws (High Tech):
- Boneless Centre Chop $6.09 (original price: $12.19),
- Lethbridge Pork Loin $4.53 (original price: $9.07).
January 16:
Loblaws (High Tech):
- Mixed Produce Box (29 bananas) $4.
- Greek blueberry yogurt $1 (original price: $3.79) x2,
- Tapioca pudding cups $0.94 (original price: $4.79),
- Greek vanilla yogurt $5 (original price: $12.99),
- Faroe Island Salmon $5.19 (original price: $10.38),
- Atlantic Salmon $4.64 (original price: $9.29),
- Tilapia $6.18 (original price: $12.37),
- Faroe Island Salmon $5.52 (original price: $11.05).
That vanilla Greek yogurt was SO smooth and creamy! A huge portion too.
January 18:
No Frills (Warden/Hwy 7):
- Mixed Produce Box (baby bok choy and yu choy)$3.50.
Loblaws (High Tech):
- Fruit Box (13 oranges) $5.
- Veggie Box (1 pack of organic Portobello mushrooms, 4 packs of organic white mushrooms) $5.
- Veggie Box (broccoli) $5.
No Frills (Yonge/16th):
- Chicken Thighs Club Pack $15.43 (original price: $30.87).
What was pictured on the app was 12 pieces of chicken thighs. What we got here was the 9-pack version. I informed Flashfood that the grocery store should upload an accurate stock photo. I thought $15 was expensive for getting just 9 pieces. Flashfood’s customer service is so far very good and they gave me $5 in credit to use towards my next purchase. I liked that the credit was automatically used in my next purchase that was over $5.
January 23:
No Frills (Warden/Hwy 7):
- Mixed Produce Box (lots of ginger) $2.22.
- Mixed Produce Box (7 apples, 5 Asian pears, 3 pears) $1.88.
January 25:
Loblaws (High Tech):
- Steelhead Trout $5.65 (original price: $11.31),
- Atlantic Salmon $5.32 (original price: $10.64),
- Icelandic Haddock $4.05 (original price: $8.11).
- Fruit Box (20 oranges, 9 chocolate navel oranges) $5.
Wow, first time seeing and getting chocolate navel oranges! Something new for our family yet again — all thanks to Flashfood! ^_^
- Fruit Box (1 large grapefruit, 13 grapefruits, 13 Halos mandarins) $5.
The 3 year old dug into the Halos mandarins right away. They are small and perfect for her little hands. She ate two in a row that evening.
- Veggie Box (3 sweet peppers, 4 packs of Savoura cherry tomatoes on the vine, 2 packs of Cherta cherry tomatoes on the vine) $5.
The tomatoes on the vine were super fresh and bouncy! What a great veggie box this was.
January 27:
Real Canadian Superstore (Dufferin/Steeles):
- Black Diamond marble shredded cheese $3.99 (original price: $7.99),
- Light medium cheese $3.89 (original price: $7.78),
- Organic roasted garlic hummus chickpea dip & spread $1.22 (original price: $2.44),
- Cinnamon Raisin English muffins $1 (original price: $2.49),
- The Big Sandwich $5.50 (original price: $11),
- Chipotle chicken empanadas $7 (original price: $14),
- Cilantro Pesto $2.49 (original price: $4.99).
This was amazing. All for $25.09 and definitely added up to being half of the original retail price. “The Big Sandwich” was the shocker here. Both the hubs and I had our eyes popping out of our heads when we saw the clerk bringing it out of the fridge. I knew it was going to be lengthy but didn’t expect it to be so wide either! It was huge! A quarter of it was 560 calories alone. It was 1 kg! It was delicious with 3 types of deli meat (black forest ham, turkey, and roast beef), cheddar cheese, and mayo. So good! We tried it before dinnertime and were so stuffed.
Both Black Diamond cheeses were such a great value too (the shredded cheese doesn’t “go bad” until March too!!)
No Frills (Yonge/16th):
- 4L of 2% milk $2.94 (original price: $5.89).
What a great deal for a 4L bag of milk and that isn’t even before the “best before” date! (Purchased it January 26 and the BB date is February 3! That’s 9 days!)
January 28:
Real Canadian Superstore (Dufferin/Steeles):
- Morning Glory Muffins $2 (original price: $6),
- 100% Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns $1.25 (original price: $2.50),
- Smoked Sausages $1.97 (original price: 3.94),
- Assorted Sub Sandwich $3 (original price: $6),
- Activia Raspberry Probiotic Drink $3.74 (original price: $7.49).
- Green Beans $2.99 (original price: $5.99).
First time trying Morning Glory muffins (carrot muffins with pineapple, walnuts, and coconut). Thanks for Flashfood for allowing us to eat well and try so many new things! The Assorted Sub Sandwich was way smaller than yesterday’s Big Sandwich despite it also having a “club pack” sticker on it. It didn’t taste as good either. It also had 3 types of deli meats: Black forest ham, salami, and bologna. I didn’t prefer the Italian dressing sauce that was in it. The drinkable Activia probiotics was so cute and fun to try! I definitely wouldn’t have bought this at full price.
Loblaws (High Tech):
- Rainbow Trout $2.66 (original price: $5.33),
- Chicken drumsticks $5 (original price: $10).
- Veggie Box (4 packs of sweet napa cabbage, 1 pack of French beans) $5.
The pack of French beans was hiding under the 4 packs of cabbage. What a surprise! All the greens were so fresh too (the beans were especially crisp).
January 30:
No Frills (Yonge/Elgin Mills):
- Chicken drumsticks (each pack had 8 drumsticks) $4 (original price: $8) x2.
Loblaws (High Tech):
- Fruit Box (15 bananas) $4.
A good deal for bananas in general but in terms of Flashfood, this was the lowest number of bananas we got in one bag — thus not the best deal. We’ve gotten 30-something bananas for $2 before…
- Large Omega 3 brown eggs $3.14 (original price: $6.29) x2,
- Cauliflower $2.49 (original price: $4.99).
Wow, how exciting! 🤩 The very first time I was able to get eggs from Flashfood! (I saw it once at the No Frills at Yonge/Elgin Mills but we already had eggs at home and I didn’t want to make a trip there just for one item.) These were large brown eggs as well. What a great price (better than Costco). I got two packs and told my friend about them too (she got 2 packs as well and a bag of fruit too!).
January 31:
Loblaws (High Tech):
- Atlantic salmon steak $3.79 (original price: $7.59),
- Strawberry raspberry drinkable yogurt $3 (original price: $6.79),
- Blueberry Lassi yogurt smoothie $0.24 (original price: $0.99).
- Smokey bacon cheese nibblers $2 (original price: $6.99),
- Vanilla 5% Greek yogurt $1.
Once again, they could not find one of the items (tilapia) in the fridge and told us to request for a refund. Also, they could not find the 0% Greek yogurt that I purchased. Instead, they offered the 5% to us as a replacement. Fine, I took it.
And yet another thing is that the bottle of blueberry lassi had a twisted cap and when I opened it, it was already open with no seal. I asked for a refund for that because it wasn’t safe to consume.
Thanks for tuning into my hauls! Here’s another share of my referral code should you want to try Flashfood for the first time: KARE4PEFC.
