Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort has a “new” lounge and restaurant called R5 (I say “new” because it has apparently been around for more than 8 years but has only been recently marketed and advertised). It is located on the second floor above the Golden Lotus Chinese restaurant and you can access it by either stairs or elevator.
R5 is primarily a lounge for those who want to relax and lounge with friends on the patio or inside. You can order drinks from the bar and nibble on shareable plates or choose from the menu to have dinner as well.
When we arrived on a Saturday evening right at 5 p.m., the restaurant had just opened and we were the first ones there.
We were given open access to the entire area and could sit wherever we wanted to. There were high tables, comfy sofa loveseats with semi-private partitions, and the patio facing the falls. There was also a large counter enclosing a bar in the middle of the restaurant. It was a very trendy-looking restaurant and there was wifi access throughout the space.
We ordered some drinks to start. The Virgin Daiquiris were available in a number of flavours including mango, pineapple, chocolate, strawberry, and more.
The Virgin Mango Daiquiri was quite thick and dense when it first arrived but after a while, it became much more fluid.
We ordered three things off the menu to share: Pork Belly Kebabs, Charcuterie Platter, and Seafood Pasta.

Food menu at R5 — not meant to be a full dinner service place, but you can select enough items to fill up for dinner if you like

Charcuterie Platter. $28
-prosciutto, capicola, chicken pate, fresh ricotta, pecorino, picked vegetables, warm olives, fig jam, grilled breads
The Charcuterie Platter was arranged so beautifully with all the fixings and perfect for sharing.
It had prosciutto, capicola, chicken pate, fresh ricotta, pecorino, picked vegetables, warm olives, fig jam, and grilled breads.
I really enjoyed the dark coloured cold cut (not sure what its name was..) out of all the cured meats. It was a bit spicy and it was smooth and tasty.
The Seafood Pasta had a host of different seafoods like shrimps, scallops, mussels, and clams with a roma tomaro sauce on the tagliatelle and parmesan cheese on top.
We all liked how the roma tomato sauce was light and not too heavy. I loved how giant the jumbo shrimps were.

Seafood Pasta. $40
-tagliatelle, shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams roma tomaro sauce, parmesan cheese
The Pork Belly Kebabs were delicious!! It arrived on a plate of five on a bed of greens with the maple soya glaze drizzled over it. Each skewer had about four chunks of pork belly stabbed through a transparent skewer stick.
The pork belly was so smooth, tender, and rich in flavour. I loved this appetizer!!
By the time we left after chilling there in the lounge at 7 p.m, there were a lot more other patrons who had arrived and who were enjoying drinks on the patio.
The food menu at R5 Lounge is small as it’s meant to be a lounge and bar but I would love to come back a try a few more of their other food items.
