We enjoyed another delicious meal at Vintage Garden Dining Room. Kudos to my in-laws (father-in-law) for always finding absolutely delicious and well-priced restaurants for us to dine at! Peep the previous blog post I wrote in 2020 where I blogged about our authentic Chiu Chow cuisine at this restaurant.
This New Year set had eight dishes and cost $498 (taxes included) and meant for ten people. We had four kids at our table of 12 people and there was ample food to go around. We had lots of leftovers too. You have to call to reserve this a day in advance. Everything was delicious, hot, and the servers were attentive and caring.
The first to arrive was this platter of Chiu Chow delicacies: scallops on seaweed, fried octopus balls, fried shrimp balls, and a cold kind of sliced vegetable. The esthetics were pretty with the little fake plant in the middle. I like how the sections moved too so you could turn it to get whatever item you wanted.
This was a very unique soup made with almonds and duck. Really tasty and you could taste the almonds in it too. The pot was gigantic and there were enough for second helpings.
Crispy fried free-run chicken. But this wasn’t your usual type of crispy chicken because it came with yam fries! I have never seen this at a Chinese restaurant. The yam fries went like hot cakes because they were so good.
A typical auspicious Chinese new year dish where you have black moss, dried oysters, dried scallop stuffed winter melon, and lots of snow pea leaves. There was so much snow peas leaves underneath it all!
Fried double lobsters. Yummy! Lots of lobster meat to go around. 😋 The menu never specified how many pounds the lobsters were (we were curious about that).
Crispy fried fish with sweet and sour sauce and also filleted pan fried fish. This was so delicious. The pan fried fish was perfectly done. Every bite was full of fish and no bones. The crispy fried fish was not as crispy as expected in that not all the bones were fried to a crisp and thus weren’t edible. Sometimes, these fried fish are so fried that you can even eat the bones! (Lots of calcium that way.)
E-fu noodles with mushrooms. Yummy and very well done.
Purple rice dessert. Yummy!
I can’t wait to return to this restaurant for more dishes. It’s such a hidden gem in Scarborough! Make sure to make a reservation because they don’t have many tables.
