Flashfood is a free app that you can use in Greater Toronto Area supermarkets to get a 50% discount off on groceries that are nearing their “best before” dates. I have been using this app since June of last year and have discovered so many great items that we wouldn’t normally buy. We’ve saved a lot of money on grocery shopping too! I’ve been blogging about what we picked from our Flashfood finds.
Here’s what I got on the Flashfood app in February 2024 ($321.49 in total).
If it is your first time using the app, you can use my referral code KARE4PEFC. If your first purchase is over $10, then we’ll both get $5 in rewards!
February 1:
Real Canadian Superstore (Dufferin/Steeles):
- Double cream brie cheese $6.99 (original price: $13.99),
- Vanilla Greek yogurt 0%, lactose free $3.49 (original price: $6.99),
- Turkey Havarti sandwich $2.89 (original price: $5.79),
- Tuna sandwich $2.39 (original price: $4.79),
- Lebanese tabbouleh salad $5.61 (original price: $11.22),
- Veggie wrap $2.74 (original price: $5.49),
- Traditional black forest ham $2.22 (original price: $4.44),
- 100% whole wheat and fibre bread $1.74 (original price: $3.49),
- Ballpark hotdog rolls $1.74 (original price: $4.49),
- Oven roasted turkey breast strips $4.72 (original price: $9.44),
- Oatmeal cookies $3 (original price: $7).
Nice big haul! The hubs got his lunch sorted out the next day with all Flashfood items (tabbouleh salad, veggie wrap, banana, and 2 oatmeal cookies)! ^_^ The oatmeal cookies tasted very “healthy” with lots of oats and my mom didn’t think it was overly sweet either.
February 2:
Loblaws (McCowan):
- Organic Grade A Whole Chicken $12.53 (original price: $25.06),
- Organic Grade A Whole Chicken $11.28 (original price: $22.56),
- Bone-in pork center chop $4.68 (original price: $9.37).
When I saw this on the app, there were so many chickens available to choose from. I selected one that was for about $10 and I wasn’t able to check out. Turns out someone had purchased it before I did! By the time I refreshed the app and tried to purchase again, all of the $10 chickens were gone! I settled for the $12 one. Then we purchased another one because a whole organic chicken for this price is too good to pass up.
Loblaws (Richmond Hill):
- Arctic char fillets $5.48 (original price: $10.96),
- Steelhead trout fillet $5.58 (original price: $11.16),
- Atlantic salmon salmon, skin on $5.02 (original price: $10.04)
- Tilapia $6.03 (original price: $12.07),
- Steelhead trout fillet $7.34 (original price: $14.68),
- Cauliflower $2.49 (original price: $).
February 6:
Loblaws (Richmond Hill):
- Faroe Island salmon $4.35 (original price: $8.71),
- Icelandic haddock $4.93 (original price: $9.87).
- Fruit Box (28 bananas) $5.
- Fruit Box (8 Asian pears, 28 kiwis) $5.
The picture on the Flashfood app showed Asian pears only, so I was so pleasantly shocked when I found two boxes of kiwis on the bottom of the bag! Amazing buy.
February 7:
No Frills (Warden/Hwy 7):
- 2L of 2% organic milk $3.59 (original price: $7.19).
February 8:
Your Independent Grocer (Pickering):
- Creamy 1.5% vanilla yogurt $2 (original price: $4.99),
- Key lime 2% Greek yogurt $1.75 (original price: $3.50).
February 9:
Loblaws (McCowan):
- Split turkey wings $4.71 (original price: $9.43),
- Split turkey wings $4.75 (original price: $9.51).
February 10:
No Frills (Finch/404):
- Mixed Produce box (3 apples, 6 limes, 4 granny smith apples, 1 pomegranate, 3 avocados, 2 oranges, 3 lemons, 2 red peppers, 3 onions, 2 mangoes) $5.
Great assortment of fruits! I love how this No Frills always presents their Flashfood produce boxes so neatly and beautifully.
February 12:
Loblaws (Richmond Hill):
- Greek yogurt $2 (original price: $4.49).
The pictured yogurt in the Flashfood app was not what I received. I actually prefer this one over the “triple zero” one they had.
February 14:
No Frills (Yonge/Steeles):
- 9% vanilla bean and apricot Greek yogurt $2 (original price: $5.49),
First time trying a 9% milk fat content yogurt!
- Fruit Box (12 apples, 1 cantaloupe) $5.
All the apples were tarnished and had major imperfections but still edible and sweet.
February 15:
Real Canadian Superstore (Dufferin/Steeles):
- 2% plain Greek yogurt $0.94 (original price: $3.99),
- Oatmeal raisin cookies $2.50 (original price: $5.50),
- Pineapple and ham pizza $5 (original price: $10).
Whoa, a whole pizza for $5! What a great deal. Lunch was all sorted out that day. 🙂
Wholesale Club Richmond Hill:
- 12 large brown eggs $2.99 (original price: $5.99),
- 1L of 2% milk $1.74 (original price: $3.49).
My second time seeing and buying eggs from Flashfood! Great buy. Thanks to my friend who picked up this order for me. 😘
February 16:
Loblaws (McCowan):
- Chicken drumsticks $5 (original price: $10).
February 17:
Loblaws (Richmond Hill):
- Atlantic salmon steak $3.51 (original price: $7.03),
- Icelandic cod fillet $4.23 (original price: $8.46).
- Fruit Box (16 oranges) $5.
February 23:
Loblaws Maple Leaf Gardens:
- Maple Greek yogurt $2 (original price: $3.99),
- Mild cheddar cheese $1.94 (original price: $6.99),
- Fiesta sliced cheese $1.44 (original price: $4.99).
First time trying the Greek yogurt in maple flavour and the “fiesta” sliced cheeses. The maple syrup flavoured yogurt was interesting and definitely a tad sweet. The sliced cheese wasn’t spicy as I thought it might be!
Loblaws (Richmond Hill):
- Lactose free 1.5% vanilla yogurt $1.99 (original price: $3.99),
- Strawberry banana kefir $3 (original price: $6.99),
- Raspberry pomegranate kefir $3 (original price: $6.99).
My first time trying this kind of kefir — such a great opportunity through Flashfood! It tasted like a drinkable yogurt. I couldn’t tell it was kefir because the kefir I’ve had in the past had a “sparkling” bubbliness about it. These items weren’t even close to the “best before” date either — surprisingly. They actually sold items that had “best before” dates of March 4 and 10! (That’s 11 to 17 days away from the “BB” date.)
February 24:
Real Canadian Superstore (Dufferin/Steeles):
- 2L of 1% partly skimmed milk $2.59 (original price: $5.19) x2,
- Fettuccine mushroom sauce $4.24 (original price: $8.49),
- Seasoned white chicken and carbonara $4.24 (original price: $8.49),
- 2 Tilapia $4.36 (original price: $8.73),
- Salmon steak $4.89 (original price: $9.79),
- Chicken giblets $8.04 (original price: $19.61),
- Micro broccoli $0.94 (original price: $4.49),
- Roast beef sandwich $2.89 (original price: $5.79),
- Classic ham sandwich $2.14 (original price: $4.29),
- Sausage buns $1.50 (original price: $3.79).
I love these big hauls. It takes work to check the app from 8 a.m. in the morning and sporadically throughout the day in order to “collect” all these items too. We picked everything up around 7 p.m. that evening — the latest we have been to this Superstore.
No Frills (Yonge/Steeles):
- Fruit Box (10 apples, 1 papaya, 5 bananas) $5.
- Lemon Pie $0.75 (original price: $1.50).
February 26:
No Frills (Dufferin/Rutherford):
- 1kg of 2% vanilla Greek yogurt $3.99 (original price: $7.99),
- 2% London fog Greek yogurt $1.99 (original price: $3.99).
Loblaws (Richmond Hill):
- Fruit Box (16 bananas, 5 avocados) $4.
- Spring Mix $1.99 (original price: $3.99),
- Field Greens & Baby Spinach Salad Mix $3.74 (original price: $7.49),
- Crumbled Cauliflower $1.99 (original price: $3.99),
- Broccoli Slaw $1.74 (original price: $3.49),
- Micro Arugula $1.99 (original price: $3.99).
February 27:
Loblaws (Richmond Hill):
- Fruit Box (18 bananas) $3.
- Fruit Box (2 packs of mixed nuts) $5.
Great deal for these mixed nuts!
- Mixed Produce Box (5 packs of blackberries, mini cucumbers, 1 organic apple) $3.
Sooo lucky to get this produce box! All of the blackberries were so fresh and sweet! So glad I nabbed this bag quickly because fruit of this quality usually gets snatched up really quickly.
- Baby corn $2.99 (original price: $5.99),
- Chunky bowl $2.49 (original price: $4.99).
My first time trying this guacamole in a bowl and it was so tasty! The bowl was shallow. It was a chunky mixture of mashed avocado with onions, garlic, and spices.
No Frills (Warden/Hwy 7):
- Mixed Produce Box (4 lettuce) $2.50.
February 28:
No Frills (Yonge/Steeles):
- Oatmeal cookies $2.75 (original price: $5.50),
- Roasted garlic hummus $2 (original price: $4.99).
Loblaws (Richmond Hill):
- Chunky bowl $2.49 (original price: $4.99) x2.
We enjoyed the guacamole so much that I got two more bowls the next day! The hubs said this wasn’t cheap and seemed more like a luxury item, which I agree but thoroughly enjoyed anyway.
Loblaws (McCowan/Hwy 7):
- Chicken thighs club pack $6.31 (original price: $12.62),
- Baby-cut carrots $1.44 (original price: $5.49),
- Vegetable Medley $2.49 (original price: $4.99),
- Caesar Salad Kit $0.94 (original price: $3.99).
Unfortunately, the Caesar salad kit wasn’t good; the lettuce leaves in it were all rusted and I couldn’t even pick out the good leaves to eat. I asked Flashfood for a refund on it.
- Veggie Box (12 red peppers, 3 yellow peppers, 8 green peppers, 11 peppers) $5.
A huge cardboard box of peppers! 34 peppers all for $5 is an amazing deal.
No Frills (Markham Rd/Hwy 7):
- Whole chicken $10.60 (original price: $21.21),
- Boneless skinless chicken breast $4.34 (original price: $8.68),
- Boneless skinless chicken breast $4.68 (original price: $9.36).
