Surprise Bags from Too Good To Go in February 2024

Too Good to Go ask a friend to pick up a surprise bag

The new feature on Too Good to Go in February 2024

In February 2024, TGTG introduced a new feature where you can ask a friend to pick up a surprise bag on your behalf!  They can accept the chore or give it back to you too.  I’m sure this new tool is useful for those who want to ask a nearby friend or partner to pick up a surprise bag for them.

(I don’t need to use it because my husband has always been able to pick up my orders from his device, but I’m still glad this feature exists now!)

Here are the 18 Too Good to Go surprise bags I purchased in February 2024:

(Where there is a clear price tag of the goods, surprise bags that meet or are above the minimum value are marked with a green checkmark and surprise bags that do not meet the minimum value are marked with a red X.  E.g. If a surprise bag costs $7.99, the minimum value of goods received should be $24 worth.)

February 2:

Yummy Dragon surprise bag

Yummy Dragon $5.99 surprise bag

  • 和味濃 Yummy Dragon
  • 9390 Woodbine Ave., unit 1fc3, Markham
  • Pick up time:  6 to 7 p.m.
  • Surprise Bag:  $5.99 plus tax = $6.77
  • Contents:  Container of their daily special “Korean style pork soft bone with rice” $13.99 and a cup of iced Lemon Tea $4.50.  Total value:  $18.49 ✅.
  • Taste of the sauce was pretty good.  There wasn’t a lot of pork soft bone in it and some pieces were rough to chew through.  Hubs said the lemon tea was very watered down (too many ice cubes).  I was really hoping to try their their classic Hong Kong style snacks instead.  They’re a brand new store in the food court and in their soft opening phase.

February 6:

Chevalier Star Trading Co. $9.99 surprise bag

Chevalier Star Trading Co. $9.99 surprise bag

  • Chevalier Star Trading Co. Ltd.
  • 88B East Beaver Creek Rd., unit 4, Richmond Hill
  • Pick up time:  1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Noodles Surprise Bag:  $9.99 (no tax)
  • Contents:  24 instant vermicelli cup noodles (12 cups of Pickled Green Vermicelli Noodles, 12 cups of Mala Numbing Vermicelli Noodles), 12 packs of A1 Crab Flavour Rice Vermicelli.
  • We enjoyed the last noodle box from Chevalier Star so much that we bought another surprise bag once we finished what we had at home.  This time, we were surprised with all these cup noodles instead of the ones you need to cook on a stovetop.  In addition to the 24 vermicelli cup noodles, the lady gave us the 12 packs of the crab flavour ones for free.  These ones are for free because they’re one year past the “best before” date.  The vermicelli noodles were only a few days past the “BB date” (February 4, 2024).

Chevalier Star Trading Co. $11.99 surprise bag

Chevalier Star Trading Co. $11.99 surprise bag

  • Chevalier Star Trading Co. Ltd.
  • 88B East Beaver Creek Rd., unit 4, Richmond Hill
  • Pick up time:  1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Abalone Surprise Bag:  $11.99 (no tax)
  • Contents:  8 packs of A1 abalone, 12 packs of A1 Crab Flavour Rice Vermicelli, 11 packs of Pretz sticks.
  • We were disappointed to find out that this “abalone” surprise bag was really just the mini abalone packs that are in the A1 abalone instant noodles (we got these last time).  How did they come up with this price of $11.99 if these abalone packs are accompaniments to the noodles?
  • The lady was nice and said the 12 packs of A1 crab flavour rice vermicelli were free.  When she saw my toddler daughter, she also gifted us the Pretz sticks snacks as well.  Very, very generous!

February 8:

Longo's dairy surprise bag

Longo’s $6.99 surprise bag

  • Longo’s (Hwy 7)
  • 3085 Hwy 7, Markham
  • Dairy: $6.99 (no tax)
  • Pick up time: 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Contents:  Cappuccino Yogurt $4.79, Yves Spicy Italian Veggie Sausages $7.49 x2, 30 Enriched Coop Medium White Eggs $8.99.  Total value: $28.76 ✅.
  • Amazing bag!  The first time we received eggs in our dairy bag.  So perfect for us because we eat eggs in our family every day.  The cappuccino yogurt not up our alley and the veggie dogs again not our preferred proteins.

February 9:

Wilson's Haus of Lechon surprise bag

Wilson’s Haus of Lechon $7.99 surprise bag

  • Wilson’s Haus of Lechon (Glen Watford Dr)
  • 8 Glen Watford Dr., Scarborough
  • Surprise Bag Large:  $7.99 plus tax = $9.03
  • Pick up time:  4 to 6 p.m.
  • Contents:  Lechon, pancit, 2 sides (artichoke, peas and spinach)
  • Amazing bag!!  We arrived 10 minutes before 6 and the staff saw us outside and opened the door for us.  She was getting ready to leave!  She asked me how many surprise bags I got and I told her one.  She warmed up the food and packed it for us right away.  She told us they have an AYCE breakfast on weekends (definitely want to try it out).  The food was so delicious!  Unfortunately, I don’t know the proper name for the two sides.  The artichoke was creamy and tangy.  The peas and spinach were like comfort food and so delicious!  The pancit noodles were right up my alley.  The lechon was smooth and tender too.  I definitely can’t wait to return to try their hot food fresh.

February 13:

Aga Baba Doner & Kebab surprise bag

Aga Baba Doner & Kebab $6.99 surprise bag

  • Aga Baba Doner & Kebab
  • 556 Church St., Toronto
  • Shawarma deal:  $6.99 plus tax = $7.90
  • Pick up time:  12 to 8 p.m.
  • Contents:  Chicken shawarma on rice, salad.
  • Nice and tasty chicken shawarma although a little on the salty side.  The salad was very fresh and crispy.

Metro dairy surprise bag

Metro $5.99 surprise bag

  • Metro (20 Church Ave)
  • 20 Church Ave., North York
  • Pick up time:  12 to 6 p.m.
  • Dairy Surprise Bag:  $5.99 (no tax)
  • Contents:  Caramelized Onion Flavoured Sour Cream Dip $3.99, Four cheese sauce $6.89, Apple Juice $6.49.  Total value: $17.37. ❌
  • I was expecting more dairy products in their brand new dairy surprise bag.  It reminds me of the Longo’s dairy surprise bag with the inclusion of the apple juice.  Unlike Longo’s though which gives you three or four days of products near the “BB date”, all three products in this surprise bag had a “BB date” of either on or one day after.
  • Nevertheless, I was very happy to see that Metro now has a new category of surprise bags to buy!  Terrific job, Metro for introducing dairy surprise bags!  👏

February 14:

Bakery Nakamura Chestnut Roll

Bakery Nakamura $6.99 surprise bag

  • Bakery Nakamura (Markham)
  • 3160 Steeles Ave. E., #9, Markham
  • Pick up time:  1 to 5:30 p.m.
  • Pastry Goods:  $6.99 (no tax)
  • Contents:  1 Chestnut Roll.  Total value:  $28 ✅.
  • Yay, I finally got this bag to try!  This was a great value bag (a single slice is $7).  The Chestnut Roll was so fluffy, soft, and yummy!

February 16:

Bakery Nakamura surprise bag

Bakery Nakamura $4.99 surprise bag

  • Bakery Nakamura (Markham)
  • 3160 Steeles Ave. E., #9, Markham
  • Pick up time:  3 to 5:30 p.m.
  • Baked Goods:  $4.99 (no tax)
  • Contents: 4 buns (Cream Pan $2.50, Mushroom Spinach Danish with Miso Mayo $4.75, Ham & Corn $2.75, Tuna Salad $3.30).  Total value: $13.30. ❌
  • Wow, couldn’t believe I snagged another Bakery Nakamura surprise bag a day after my first one!  This one disappointingly had four buns and didn’t reach value.  They tasted good though, especially the Mushroom Spinach Danish!
Cafe Mozaiko surprise bag

Cafe Mozaiko $7.99 surprise bag

  • Cafe Mozaiko (Markham)
  • 60 Cathedral High St., Markham
  • Pick up time: 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Large Surprise Bag: $7.99 (no tax)
  • Contents: Aburi Spicy Salmon Bowl $14.95 x2.  Total value: $29.90. ✅
  • This is a new store on the app and I’m so grateful I spotted it in time!  We arrived at 5:30 p.m. for the bag, but the chef said it wasn’t ready until after 7 p.m.  They made a mistake and the start time wasn’t 7 a.m.; it was supposed to be “p.m.”!  Thus, the hubs had to make a return trip to get the surprise bag at the proper time.  Really inconvenient and I’m just glad we live rather close to it.
  • We were expecting sushi in the surprise bag and were surprised to find 2 salmon bowls.  Both were warm and ready to eat.  The salmon was chopped up and not in pieces like pictured in the menu.  It was really spicy but tasty.  I needed some milk alongside it to calm the heat.  Great bag.

February 17:

Bakery Nakamura bread loafs surprise bag

Bakery Nakamura $4.99 surprise bag

  • Bakery Nakamura (Markham)
  • 3160 Steeles Ave. E., #9, Markham
  • Pick up time:  1:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Bread Loafs:  $4.99 (no tax)
  • Contents:  3 loafs of bread (Whole Wheat $11, French $12 x2).  Total value: $35. ✅
  • I was lucky enough to get my third bag from this bakery!  We got 3 loaves of bread and they asked if we wanted it sliced.  I watched the staff slice it using the bread slicer.  Amazing bag!!  The French bread was so buttery and tasty.

Bakery Nakamura cake surprise bag

Bakery Nakamura $7 surprise bag

  • Bakery Nakamura (Markham)
  • 3160 Steeles Ave. E., #9, Markham
  • Half Whole Cake:  $7 (no tax)
  • Contents:  Half of a Raspberry Chocolate Mousse Cake (a whole cake costs $44).  Total value: $22. ✅
  • When picking up the Bread Loafs bag, the staff asked me if I was interested in the “Half Whole Cake” bag.  They hadn’t put it up on the app yet (they had 2 bags).  I said yes and she asked me to pay for it at their cashier ($7 flat).  So lucky to be there at the right time!!
  • This cake was delicious; very soft and fluffy and not too sweet.  I loved this bag and how I can try half of their decadent whole cakes for just $7. 😋

February 19:

That Pretzel Dough $6.99 surprise bag

That Pretzel Dough $6.99 surprise bag

  • That Pretzel Dough
  • 2316 Major MacKenzie Dr. W., Unit 3, Maple
  • Pick up time:  10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Assorted Giant Cookies:  $6.99 (no tax)
  • Contents:  5 cookies (2 birthday cake, 2 shortbread, 1 heart shaped chocolate dipped shortbread)($3.85 each).  Total value: $19.25. ❌
  • The cookies sure were gigantic, but they didn’t taste very good.  I’m more a fan of soft chewy cookies and these ones were the hard types.  The shortbread ones tasted plain and uninteresting.  After trying one of each kind, I gave the last two away.
That Pretzel Dough donuts surprise bag

That Pretzel Dough $6.99 surprise bag

  • That Pretzel Dough
  • 2316 Major MacKenzie Dr. W., Unit 3, Maple
  • Pick up time:  10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Mixed Donut Bag:  $6.99 (no tax)
  • Contents: Salted Caramel Stuffed Donuts $4.95 x4.  Total value: $19.80. ❌
  • The name of the surprise bag was “mixed donuts”, but I received four of the same donuts.  Their description does caution that a variety might not be guaranteed, so why called it specifically “mixed donuts” then?  It’s a misnomer and sends a mixed message.  Leave it as a “donuts” bag to keep it simple.
  • Either way, I was disappointed with this donuts bag also because the donuts didn’t taste very good.  The lady gave them to us saying they were frozen in the fridge and they would thaw in 15 minutes and could be heated up to eat.  The blob in the centre was too sweet and the powdered sugar donut part did not taste fresh or good (it tasted more like plain chocolate than salted caramel).  After trying one donut, I gave the rest away.  I regret buying this bag.

February 22:

 dairy surprise bags from Longo's

Longo’s $6.99 surprise bag

  • Contents:  Lazy maple bacon $7.99, 1L of 3.25% milk $4.50, beef wieners $11.99 x2.  Total value: $36.47. ✅
  • What a great bag with lots of unexpected meat!!  We eat all of these items, so it’s a practically perfect grocery surprise bag to receive. 😊

February 23:

 Metro meat surprise bag

Metro $12.99 surprise bag

  • Metro (20 Church Ave)
  • 20 Church Ave., North York
  • Pick up time:  12 to 6 p.m.
  • Assorted Meat:  $12.99 (no tax)
  • Contents:  Chicken Breast $14.89, Angus T-Bone Steak $12.96, Boneless Chicken Breast $14.85.  Total value:  $42.70. ✅
  • The hubs was happy to receive steak in the surprise bag and the chicken breasts were great for our family to enjoy.

 Metro assorted salad surprise bag

Metro $6.99 surprise bag

  • Metro (20 Church Ave)
  • 20 Church Ave., North York
  • Pick up time:  3 to 6 p.m.
  • Assorted Fruit & Salad:  $6.99 plus tax = $7.90
  • Contents:  Mini Greek Salad $3.99, Caesar Salad with Bacon $11.99, Garden Simply Salad $11.99, Cobb Salad with Bacon $8.49.  Total value:  $36.46. ✅
  • The first time we got a Cobb salad!  There was a bit of a smell of “wet salad” smell.  All the salads were fine to eat and definitely “too good to go”.

OMFG I didn’t know Bakery Nakamura was participating! Sadly I can’t add it to my list of favourites because the search function on the app is complete and utter garbage. But to answer your question, I’m based in North York. Thankfully, I’m pretty central to everything. Great hauls this month btw! 👏👏👏

    • stenoodie says:

Haha, yeah, they were new as of November or so! I couldn’t get a bag until February and luckily 4 in a row lol. Oh, yeah, I noticed the search function doesn’t work as well as it used to. I hope they fix it soon. Don’t forget that you can always contact TGTG and they will add it to their things to improve in the app.

Lucky you’re so central! You get a lot of bags that I don’t get access to haha. Enjoy!! And thank you! ^_^ Also, if you ever want to chat more about TGTG or Flashfood, you can message me on Instagram. It might be easier than communicating here? Haha. I post my hauls there too lol.

      • chechingg says:

Good idea! I was just gonna say, I rarely read blogs anymore. But yours happened to come up in a Google search for TGTG Toronto somehow. Anywho, just followed you on Instagram! It looks like we have some mutual friends. Not surprising since we both seem to love food 🙂

      • stenoodie says:

Thanks for connecting with me on Instagram! I’m glad you found me. I guess my SEO is working then lol. Feel free to reach out any time you wanna chat TGTG or Flashfood haha 😊

I use TGTG for just one restaurant in particular now, Arun Bakery. I’ve gotten more than 30 lb of food once, well over 22 lb another time. I can’t identify a lot of it because it doesn’t match anything on their website menu, but it’s a lot of curries and bags of baked goods. It’s all very good and often SPICY.

Most of the restaurants near me are Tim’s and I heard their bags are disappointing — and I shouldn’t be eating so much baked goods anyhow. Tried Pizza Pizza once — the value was borderline, since pizza slices are more expensive than whole pizzas. I’d rather just buy a fixed-rate pizza and get what I want on it.

Haven’t tried Flashfood yet, not sure it isn’t just stuff you’d find in the store’s discount section if you just went in.

The Wholesale Club store in Richmond Hill has some stuff cheaper than the No Frills next door and even more 50% off stuff, eg mushrooms, both 1.5 and 10 lb packages and Ziggy’s pre-packed salads, both retail packages and the restaurant buckets.

Have you tried http://www.oddbunch.ca? it’s basically a subscription service for naturally imperfect produce.

    • stenoodie says:

Hi Wayne. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

My friend has tried the surprise bag from Arun Bakery and told me about her massive haul of Indian food as well. It’s very impressive and I can see why you’d go back for it. I don’t live in that area to pick it up during the night time but one day if I’m passing through, I’d love to try it.

I hardly buy TGTG for Tim’s and Pizza Pizza. The bags are mediocre and not something I usually eat on the regular anyway. If you want more of the restaurants and bakeries near your area to join TGTG, you can recommend them as a store on the app. If they join, you will have more selection than just Tim’s and Pizza Pizza. 🙂

Flashfood has been a godsend for saving money on regular grocery shopping and I actually use it more often these days than TGTG. You should download and try it. Here’s my last month’s blog post about my Flashfood hauls if you want to take a look to see what I have gotten: https://stenoodie.com/2024/02/29/what-i-got-from-flashfood-in-february-2024/

Oh, yes, I have been to The Wholesale Club in Richmond Hill and was amazed at how much they offer for sale. It’s great! They upload some of their products to Flashfood too.

I have heard of Odd Bunch but have not tried it. I’ve heard great things about it.
