In this month’s instalment of Too Good To Go hauls, I got to try out the surprise bags of stores I’ve bookmarked for a while but didn’t get to try until now. I love scoping out the nearby stores when I am in the area for a family dinner or birthday party. It’s perfect to already be in the area.
I noticed in this month that upon receiving a voucher for an undervalued surprise bag, the voucher now includes details like what currency the monetary value is in and the total balance and remaining balance of the voucher. Does this mean that you can now use a voucher partially?
I also notice on their website that it says you can save food at 1/2 of the price now. What the heck?! It used to be 1/3rd of the original price! 😦 💔
(Where there is a clear price tag of the goods, surprise bags that meet or are above the minimum value are marked with a green checkmark and surprise bags that do not meet the minimum value are marked with a red X. E.g. If a surprise bag costs $7.99, the minimum value of goods received should be $24 worth.)
The 14 surprise bags I got in May 2024:
May 3:
- Los Cantaritos (Yonge)
- 335 Yonge St., Toronto
- Pick up time: 3 to 4 p.m.
- Surprise Bag: $7.99 plus tax = $9.02
- Contents: Chilaquiles $13 topped with shredded chicken $5, pickled beans, soda drink $3. Total value: $21. ❌
- The corn tortilla chips topped with shredded chicken and crumbled queso fresco tasted good. The side of pickled beans was nice too.
- Metro (20 Church Ave)
- 20 Church Ave., North York
- Pick up time: 2 to 6 p.m.
- Assorted Fruit & Salad: $6.99 plus tax = $7.90
- Contents: Large garden salad $11.99 x2, Very Veggie Salad $4.99, Veggie Spirals teriyaki spiral stir fry kit $5.99. Total value: $34.96. ✅

May 5:
- Sing Bakery
- Unit 102D, 4002 Sheppard Ave. E., Scarborough
- Pick up time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Bread Bag: $5.99 plus tax = $6.77
- Contents: 7 assorted Chinese buns (pineapple bun $1.80 x2, cheese and sausage “pizza” $2.50, Mexico bun,).
- I actually thought there would have been more buns based on its 4.5/5 stars rating… The buns were kept in the refrigerator upon pickup, which makes me think they are less fresh than other TGTG bakeries which keep their buns just out on the shelf unrefrigerated.
May 8:
- Melewa Bakery (Scarborough)
- 21 Trojan Gate, unit 7, Scarborough
- Pick up time: 9 to 11 a.m.
- Surprise Bag: $5.99 plus tax = $6.77
- Contents: 2 moist cakes, 3 mini lemon cupcakes, Swiss roll, coconut bun, lotus bar.
- A really nice variety bag of their baked goods found at supermarkets. The pickup location was run down and I had to yell “hello” and ring the bell a few times before someone came to get me. Very moist Asian cakes that you typically see in Asian supermarkets. It was neat to visit their “factory” location.
May 10:
- Skyline Pizza
- 1 Bonis Ave., Scarborough
- Pick up time: 9 to 9:30 p.m.
- Surprise Bag: $3.99 plus tax = $4.51.
- Contents: 1 slice pepperoni pizza, 2 slices cheese pizza.
- It was nice that the male staff there offered to heat up the pizza for me. The pizzas tasted fresh and very tomato-y despite looking a bit old.
- SunRise Caribbean Restaurant (York Mills)
- 1285 York Mills Rd., North York
- Pick up time: 9 to 10 p.m.
- Surprise Bag: $7.99 plus tax = $9.03
- Contents: 1 box of rice and beans, corn, jerk chicken; 1 box of rice and beans, corn, peppers, jerk pork belly.
- Wow, these were scooped piping hot from their serving containers. I couldn’t believe that they gave us two containers for one surprise bag. It was all so delicious. The jerk was spicy enough. The pork belly was so tender and fatty. The rice and beans were really good. The corn was fresh too. Wow, so impressed with this store!
May 11:
- Mr. Sub (2824 Markham Rd)
- 2824 Markham Rd., Scarborough
- Pick up time: 5 to 8 p.m.
- Surprise Bag: $4.99 plus tax = $5.64
- Contents: 6 loaves of Traditional White bread, cookies $1.14 x12 (Double Chocolate Chip,
Milk Chocolate Chunk). - Wow, so neat to try this sandwich place bag! I loved the cookies; they were so soft and delicious! The traditional white bread was super soft too.
May 17:
- Xin Yi Time
- 9390 Woodbine Ave., Markham
- Pick up time: 7:30 to 8 p.m.
- Surprise Bag (L): $6.99 plus tax = $7.90
- Contents: A container of rice with 4 sides (tomato scrambled eggs, eggplant and green peas, braised pork belly, spicy tofu).
- Nice to sample this store’s food. Makes me wonder what their small size surprise bag ($4.99) would be like.
- Adore Cake 朵 x Black Ball 黑丸 (Commerce Gate)
- 505 Hwy 7, unit 11, Thornhill

- Surprise Bag (Pastries/Beverages): $7.99 plus tax = $9.03
- Contents: Jasmine Basque cake $7.75, Black sesame puff $6. Total value: $13.75. ❌
- So happy to finally get to try this place! Very delicious cake (topped with super smooth matcha cream) and cream puff (full of rich black sesame favour).
May 21:
- Metro (70 Thickson Rd. S)
- 70 Thickson Rd. S, Whitby

- Assorted Fruit & Salad: $6.99 plus tax = $7.90
- Contents: Baby spinach $6.49, Zesty arugula $5.99, Mixed Berry Greek Yogurt Parfait with Almonds $4.29, Veggie Spirals teriyaki spiral stir fry kit $5.99. Total value: $22.76. ✅
- Nice to get a Greek yogurt parfait in for the first time. Good bag.
- Metro (70 Thickson Rd. S)

Total value: $45.93. ✅
- Amazing value! I was so shocked at all of the packages I kept pulling out of the brown bag. The items are past BB date — makes sense because it was Victoria Day holiday yesterday.
- Very delicious stuffed mushrooms, chicken breasts, seasoned beef burgers!
May 26:
- Circle K (7015 Yonge St)
- 7015 Yonge St., Thornhill
- Pick up time: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Surprise Bag: $4.99 plus tax = $5.64
- Contents: Spring Water $2.09, Salt & Vinegar chips $2.49, Black Forest Ham & Cheese on White bread sandwich.
- When the husband went to pick up this bag (finally the first out of three bags from Circle K that did not cancel the order on us), the staff chose the items from the shelves and put them into a bag for them. Pretty sure this bag is undervalued… Fun to try Circle K items as I’ve never bought from this store before (and usually wouldn’t).
- I was really happy to see Circle K on the app. I can’t wait to see more Circle Ks in my area participate (as well as On-The Run, Mac’s).
- 6Boss Caribbean Jerk
- 7181 Yonge St., Vaughan
- Pick up time: 3 to 4 p.m.
- Surprise Bag: $4.99 plus tax = $5.64
- Contents: Container of jerk chicken leg, rice and beans, coleslaw.
- Brand new on the app today and my husband was right in the area to pick it up! Great value for $4.99 plus tax. The jerk chicken was spicy and quite tender. The rice and beans were a little rounder and on the sweeter side than I liked. Good coleslaw that was light.
May 30:
- Metro (20 Church Ave)
- 20 Church Ave., North York
- Pick up time: 3 to 6 p.m.
- Assorted Fruit & Salad: $6.99 plus tax = $7.90
- Contents: Small Ceasar Salad with Real Bacon $6.99, Large Simply Garden Salad $9.99, Strawberry Almond Goat Cheese Salad $6.99. Total value: $23.97. ✅
- Despite all salads having a BB date of the pickup date, there were wilted and rusted-looking lettuce leaves. It didn’t taste fresh nor looked fresh. This will be my last time getting salad bags from this location this year as the warm weather has arrived.
(Successfully reserved their Assorted Meat bag too but it once again cancelled on the morning of.)

Hi Stenoodie, Thanks for sharing your photos and thoughts on all your TGTG bags. They help me to decide which bags to try next.
Regarding your comment with the Sing Bakery bag that the buns were kept in the refrigerator possibly suggesting that they may not be as fresh, I personally think that’s better to keep them in the fridge because I’m wary of buns that are kept at room temperature overnight because the meat or cream filled buns may spoil. When I get a bakery bag I ask if they were in the fridge, if not must all be eaten asap.
Looking forward to reading more of your blog!
Hi Sylng. Thanks for stopping by my blog and reading my TGTG blog post! I blog about my hauls every month (and from Flashfood too). Hope you find more of my blog posts helpful! 🙂
