The 20 surprise bags I got in July 2025 from Too Good To Go

A lovely app called Too Good To Go is what I check daily or hourly on my smartphone.  Restaurants and stores put together “surprise bags” of unsold surplus goods at a third of the retail price to sell to the public to cut down food waste.  Merchants post surprise bags randomly at different times of the day, so you have to check the app frequently to buy rare bags.  It’s been a great hit with foodies and those who like to try new things.

This month, I got to try so many surprise bags from Food Basics which is new on the app! ^_^  I’ve been waiting for them to join TGTG and now they have! (Or Flashfood would have been an amazing choice too.)

Here is my monthly roundup of the surprise bags I bought in July 2025.  I bought 20 bags this month!

I thought there would be bread inside of their bakery bag but I was wrong.  Nice surprise with these quadruple mini muffins!  I’m glad we have young kids at home who love this kind of stuff.

Perfect meat bag for our family!!  I love ingesting lots of protein and turkey meat is great for that.  We cooked these for dinner and they were so delicious and tender!!  Great value too.

• Contents:  3 packs of romaine lettuce, 1 pack of tomatoes, 1 bag of red onions, 2 bags of carrots, 1 bag of green grapes, pears, 3 bags of baby carrots, 1 bag of lemons, 2 onions, 3 English cucumbers, 6 bags of avocados (3 each), green dandelion, rainbow chard.

I was completely blown away with the volume of food that Healthy Planet put into this organics surprise bag.  It was all put into a box for us to take home and even the husband said it was heavy to carry!

Quantity does not equal quality though as all but 2 of the 18 avocados were edible, many pears were dented or overly ripe with skin coming off, and much of the lettuce had to be sorted through.

But with that said, the tomatoes were perfect as were the carrots and baby carrots.  Amazing value considering organic produce is a premium cost.  I will get this bag again the next time we are in the area.

July 15, 2025:

Fun to try a new brand of instant noodles!  You leave it in hot water for 5 minutes, drain it, and then mix in the seasonings.  It’s considered a “healthy” instant noodles.  My oldest kid has been loving it a lot.

Hahaha, I laughed when I peeked in the paper bag and saw the Lunchables.  Thank goodness we have kids who find joy in eating these because I would not have been amused if I were in a childfree home.  We ate the coleslaw that night for dinner; so great.

The cupcakes were an excitement to the kids.  The coffee cake (first time trying it and learning that it is a cake best paired with coffee) was too sweet.  The husband liked it but I didn’t want our household ingesting excess sugar so I gave it away.  I loved the muffins.

First time trying this brand of sausages.  I would never voluntarily buy this type of sausage.  Tasty but oh so fatty.  You can see the fat gobules straight from the packaging…

I bought this bag in anticipation of the thirdborn’s half birthday, but I ended up getting an actual cake bag as you’ll see in the next entry.

The Mung Bean Cakes in the shape of Labubus were interesting.  The Mango Sago Lava was very velvety with lots of “lava”.  The Taro Mochi Pork Floss was very delicious.  Such a good combination that I’ve never tried before.

I felt “duped” with this “cake” bag!! 😆  I was anticipating a whole cake and thus was thoroughly surprised with an assortment of cakes instead!

The cream puffs tasted more fresh this time and so I enjoyed it more.  The 9 mix of different cakes was nice to try.  The tiramisu flavourful was my favourite.  The Oreo Mochi cake was good too.

Nice to get lots of high protein meat!  Now that I’ve bought a number of Food Basics surprise bags, why do they not change up the variety of their surprise bags?  Why is it always the same or similar items in one bag? 🤔

Very underwhelmed with this surprise bag.  I incorrectly assumed that having a rating of 4.5 would mean a monstrous amount of baked goods.  I was so mistaken and disappointed.  Is all this really worth $24??

The loaf of bread was fresh and really soft; love this kind of texture.  The cinnamon roll and chocolate croissant-like pastry were hardened and so-so.
