Ten of the surprise bags from Too Good To Go in January 2005

A fun app to try new restaurants and stores is called Too Good To Go.  Restaurants and stores will assemble “surprise bags” of unsold food items and sell it on the app for a third of the original retail price.  You can help reduce food waste this way too! 

Here is my monthly roundup of the surprise bags I bought in 2025.  I bought 10 surprise bags this month!

(Where there is a clear price tag of the goods, surprise bags that meet or are above the minimum value are marked with a green checkmark and surprise bags that do not meet the minimum value are marked with a red X.  E.g. If a surprise bag costs $6.99, the minimum value of goods received should be $21 worth.)

January 3, 2025:

Yay!  This cake surprise bag came in handy to celebrate the FIL’s birthday! Inside of the strawberry case was red velvet filling (surprisingly).  The Chestnut box cake was good too.

January 7, 2025:

A lovely surprise to receive their Box Cakes to try! ^_^  The Matcha Box Cake tasted light and creamy.  The Oreo Box Cake was sweet and very rich.  I liked the Oreo one a lot.

January 11, 2025:

My first time grabbing the new seafood surprise bag from Metro (finally!).  Really happy that these are all items we regularly eat and love to eat (salmon is so good for you).  Excited for more seafood surprise bags in the future!

Even when picking up the brown paper surprise bag, I noticed how light it felt.  It’s always disappointing whenever Metro doesn’t fulfil the proper value for their surprise bags because they have surplus items for sure; the employees are just not adhering to the proper value.  The salad items were great though and my kids polished off the Yogurt Bento faster than you can say “vinaigrette dressing”.

January 13, 2025:

I didn’t get any Seafood Surprise Bags since they started on Metro in November and then bam!, got one two days in a row.  Very happy to score this bag from Metro at this location.

January 20, 2025:

I thought there would be more items in the bag, but the correct value is there.

I was craving for some sweets, so it was nice for the husband to pick up this surprise bag on the way home from work (readily available because there are so many Timmies around).  The last time I got this same bag from the same location, we got exclusively muffins too!  They tasted good and were moist.

January 24, 2025:

• Contents:  Chicken Penne Pasta $14, can of pop $1.  Total value: $15. ❌

The penne pasta with rose sauce was delicious, but there were very few pieces of chicken in it.  Most disappointing was that the value of the surprise bag didn’t reach the advertised value at all.  I was initially really excited to try this new store on the app.  I hope they receive the proper feedback from TGTG and give out properly valued surprise bags in the future.

January 25, 2025:

I was craving sweets again and so happy that I saw this bag in time so that the husband could go out to get it!  This style of donuts wasn’t what I was expecting at all.  I also didn’t expect there to be a savoury donut (the curry one).  All of the donuts were rather oily, but I’m really glad to be able to finally try this bag (I have tried all of their other ones now:  baked goods, bread loafs, sliced bread, and half whole cake!).
