Too Good To Go is a free app where you can enjoy food savings and help unsold food from restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores from going to waste. For one third of the original price, you can save a bag of mystery food. Here are my Too Good to Go hauls in the Greater Toronto Area in April 2023. I bought 18 surprise bags in total.
Surprise bags that meet or are above the minimum value are marked with a green checkmark. Surprise bags that do not meet the minimum value are marked with a red X. (If a surprise bag is purchased for $4.99, the minimum value is worth three times its price = $15.)
April 2, 2023:
- Pizza Pizza (9255 Woodbine)
- 9255 Woodbine Ave., Markham
- Pick up time: 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
- Prepared meals: $5.99 plus tax = $6.77
- Contents: 1 Pepperoni Panzerotti, 1 slice of cheese pizza, 1 slice of pepperoni pizza.
- The panzerotti was filled with gooey cheese and pepperoni; it was really tasty! It was my mom’s first time having one and she liked it more than eating a regular slice of pizza. I really liked the variation in this surprise bag — it was a surprising treat getting a panzerotti instead of just slices of pizza.
April 5, 2023:
- Toronto Yatai
- 7500 Woodbine Ave., Markham
- Pick up time: 11 to 11:59 a.m.
- Surprise Bag: $3.99 plus tax = $4.51
- Contents: 2 Oven Baked Matcha Donuts $5.50, 1 Japanese Hot Dog $5.99. Total value: $11.49. ❌
- It was my second time trying their matcha donuts (one was chocolate.) The Japanese Hot Dog had takoyaki in it — it was a nice snack but not over-the-top amazing.
April 8, 2023:
- Pizza Pizza (9255 Woodbine)
- 9255 Woodbine Ave., Markham
- Pick up time: 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
- Prepared meals: $5.99 plus tax = $6.77
- Contents: 5 slices of large pizza (although the way that two of them are cut makes it look like there are 3 pieces in 1)(cheese, pepperoni, pepperoni with mushroom, Hawaiian).
- This was the most number of pizza slices we received in a surprise bag thus far. We like getting the surprise bag from this location of Pizza Pizza because the slices taste fresh and are kept in the refrigerator until pickup.
- Metro (2900 Warden Ave)
- 2900 Warden Ave., Scarborough
- Pick up time: 4 to 6 p.m.
- Baked Goods: $5.99 plus tax = $6.77
- Contents: 2 Cheese Buns $2.99, 4 Chocolate Hazelnut filled Butter Croissants $5.49, 4 Cinnamon Butterhorn Danish $5.49, 4 Cheddar Cheese Bagels $5.19, 4 Butter Scones $4.79, 12 Strawberry-Cheese Fruit Bites $4.79. Total value: $28.74. ✅
- I loved this assortment of goods! The Strawberry-Cheese Fruit Bites were delicious and easy to pop one in the mouth as a snack — most of these were gone by the end of the first day. The chocolate croissants were great. The Danishes were sweet and unique; a cross between a cinnamon roll and a Danish. Cheese buns were good too!
April 13, 2023:

- Boreal Gateau & Creamery
- 2-205 Main St Unionville, Unionville
- Pick up time: 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
- Pastries: $6.99 plus tax = $7.90
- Contents: 4 Croissants (2 almond $5.75 x2, 1 milk tea $5.75, 1 creme brulee $5.25). Total value: $22.50. ✅
- This was the second bag I got from them and it was nearly the same except the croissants this time weren’t as big and nice-looking. They also looked a little bit burnt. Taste-wise, they were fine. I was again hoping to get some of their mini ice cream cakes to try.
April 18, 2023:
- WOW Patisserie
- 9301 Bathurst St, Richmond Hill
- Pick up time: 5 to 8 p.m.
- Assorted Pastries: $7.99 plus tax = $9.03
- Contents: 1 Chocolate Mocha cake (coffee cake with chocolate sponge) $37. ✅
- We enjoyed this whole cake. At first, I thought it was exactly the same cake as we got the first time around (Caramel Cake), but we realized it was a different cake once we cut it open. The bottom layer was soaked with coffee.
April 19, 2023:
- Bruno’s Fine Foods (Richmond Hill)
- 9665 Bayview Ave., Richmond Hill
- Pick up time: 12 to 3 p.m.
- Baked Goods: $5.99 plus tax = $6.77
- Contents: Raisin hala (egg bread) $5.99, Peanut butter cookies $12.99, Gourmet raspberry cookies $8.49. Total value: $27.47. ✅
- I loved this haul! These are treats that we wouldn’t normally have purchased. The egg bread was great. The peanut butter cookies were a tad hard but still tasty. The artisan raspberry jam cookies were a new treat that reminded me of those old school biscuits with jam in the middle.
April 20, 2023:
- Gyu Kaku Japanese BBQ
- 550 Hwy 7 E, unit 281-283, Richmond Hill
- Pick up time: 8 to 9 p.m.
- Surprise Bag: $8.99 plus tax = $10.16
- Contents: Grilled pork, beef, cabbage. Plain rice with seaweed.
- This was a very disappointing save. The grilled meats were a bit smelly. The portions were much smaller than what we received the first time around.
- Yin Ji Chang Fen (Unionville)
- 4981 Hwy 7, unit 13, Unionville
- Pick up time: 11:35 to 11:55 p.m.
- Prepared Meal: $5.99 plus tax = $6.77
- Contents: 6 lotus leaf sticky rice, 1 container of plain congee with a side of preserved vegetables.
- This was a much-anticipated bag and well worth the money and late-night pickup. I couldn’t believe we got 6 sticky rice! Everything was hot and fresh. We tried it immediately upon bringing it home and it was absolutely delicious. The sticky rice had a lot of filling in it and wasn’t too fatty. The plain congee was silky smooth and the preserved vegetables gave it a bit of a kick. It didn’t need the accompaniment though because just the plain congee was delicious and like comfort food already. This was a solid bag that I would definitely get again.
April 22, 2023:
- Tim Hortons (7689 Yonge St)
- 7689 Yonge St., Thornhill
- Pick up time: 8 to 10 p.m.
- Baked Goods: $4.99 (no tax)
- Contents: 1 Jalapeno Asiago Mozzarella bagel $2.79, 4 muffins (Fruit Explosion $2.29, Wild Blueberry $1.99, Whole Grain Pecan Banana Bread $1.99, Chocolate Chip $1.99), Double Chocolate donut $1.49, Honey Cruller $1.49. Total value: $14.03. ❌
- I finally got to try a Tim Hortons surprise bag! Everything in the box was so fresh as if it was just baked and didn’t taste like leftovers at all. I couldn’t believe how fresh the fruit explosion muffin was; it was oozing with gooey fruit. The bagel was so spicy!
April 23, 2023:
- Papa John’s Bakery
- 223 Ceremonial Dr., Mississauga
- Pick up time: 2 to 3 p.m.
- Surprise Bag: $4.99 plus tax = $5.64
- Contents: 8 pineapple buns ($2 each). Total value: $16. ✅
- I was a little shocked to receive 8 pineapple buns in the surprise bag from this Cantonese bakery/cafe. I noticed that they were highly rated with 4.7/5 stars at the time of pickup and expected much more (quantity and variety wise). I should have kept my expectations lower. It’s a great deal regardless, but I do wish there was a little more variety. The pineapple buns were huge, very soft, and tasted good.
- Burnhamthorpe Fruit Market
- 3647 Dixie Rd, Mississauga
- Pick up time: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Bread: $7.99 (no tax)
- Contents: 3 loaves of raisin bread, 4 large squares of pepperoni pizza, 1 spinach cheese pastry, 1 cheese pastry.
- Okay, I did not expect this gigantic haul at all! This is a top TGTG bag! When I showed up to pick up this bag at this unassuming grocery store, the staff person handed me a big banana cardboard box. When we got home to open it up, we were shocked with all of the food we were given!
- The pepperoni pizzas upon heating up were so delicious; the pepperoni slices are those little round circle types. The two pastries were delicious. The raisin bread made for great breakfasts. I loved this bag!
- Fun fact: This was my 100th TGTG surprise bag!
- Village Juicery (Square One)
- 100 City Centre Dr., FM18, Mississauga
- Pick up time: 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.
- Surprise Bag: $6.99 plus tax = $7.90
- Contents: Village Noodle Soup $14, Traditional Lentil Soup $14. Total value: $28. ✅
- I loved getting this bag. Both soups in glass jars were fresh, tasty, and 3 to 4 days out from the Best Before date. It was a wonderful experience to try the soups from Village Juicery for the first time.
- Chocollata Brigadeiros (Square One)
- 100 City Centre Dr., Mississauga
- Pick up time: 12 to 6:30 p.m.
- Assorted Treats – Large: $11.99 plus tax = $13.55
- Contents: 12 assorted brigadeiros (4 White Coconut, 4 Cookies n’ Cream, 4 sprinkles)($2.75 each). Total value: $33. ❌
- Thanks to this store on the app, I learned what brigadeiros were and tried them for the first time. They’re traditional Brazilian desserts that according to the co-founder of this store are a cross between a truffle, caramel, and fudge.
- With that said, these were very sweet and you can only (or should) eat one at a time. In my opinion, they’re great for wedding favours or party loot bags. They’re handmade and very decadent and rich!
April 27, 2023:
- Metro (600 Sheppard Ave)
- 600 Sheppard Ave. W, North York
- Pick up time: 3 to 6 p.m.
- Assorted Fruit & Salad: $6.99 plus tax = $7.90
- Contents: Cheddar Simply Green Salad $10.99, Kale Citrus Salad $6.99, Honeydew chunks $4.99. Total value: $22.97. ✅
- I was so happy to try a fruit & salad bag from Metro for the very first time since they newly started offering it on the app. This was a great assortment of salad and fruit. Both salads were so fresh and large! We didn’t finish them and actually put them in the fridge to continue eating the next day. They were still fresh and tasty!
April 28, 2023:
- Metro (20 Church Ave)
- 20 Church Ave., North York
- Pick up time: 3 to 6 p.m.
- Assorted Fruit & Salad: $6.99 plus tax = $7.90
- Contents: Mini Caesar Salad $3.99, Chopped Italian Salad $6.99, Chop Chop BBQ Ranch salad kit $5.99, Broccoli Coleslaw $2.99, Portabella Mushrooms $5.49. Total value: $25.45. ✅
- I realized that hubs works near a Metro so now this meant we can have a salad bag in our meals every week! I loved the variety of the salads we received, and everything was fresh and tasty.
- Brioche Doree (North American Centre)
- 5650 Yonge St., North York
- Pick up time: 4:30 to 7 p.m.
- Prepared meals: $7.99 plus tax = $9.03
- Contents: 5 croissant sandwiches (2 cheese omelette sandwiches, 3 ham, lettuce, tomato, mayo sandwiches).
- This was a fantastic end-of-day pickup! We truly got the leftover sandwiches that would have been thrown out if it weren’t for the app! Who doesn’t love croissant sandwiches? These were so tasty and we scarfed them all down as part of our dinner that evening. My favourite was the one with ham.
April 29, 2023:
- Laya Cafe & Pastry
- 114 Tower Hill Rd., Richmond Hill
- Pick up time: 5 to 10 p.m.
- Assorted Pastries: $6.99 plus tax = $7.90
- Contents: 1 rollet, 3 chocolate cupcakes, 1 cream pastry, 4 baklava (2 types; a round one and a square one).
- The items were taken from the display case upon showing them the app. The items were quite average, especially the unfrosted cupcakes. The baklava was very fragrant. It was nice to try out this Persian bakery regardless.
See what I got in my other TGTG hauls in: January 2023, February 2023, March 2023, April (this one), May 2023, June 2023, July 2023, August 2023, September 2023, October 2023, November 2023, December 2023.

Just saw this app mentioned by Buzzfeed on Twitter. Thought everything in the GTA would be in Toronto and not worth the drive, but then I saw your blog posts and was pleasantly surprised to see so many in Richmond Hill.
Am going to give it a try.
You’re very lucky to be in Richmond Hill (also close to Markham and Thornhill) where there are many, many stores on TGTG! It’s a food mecca with new stores joining every week! 😄 Enjoy! If you can share what you get, it’d be fun to see your hauls too. 😊
