The 2 surprise bags I got in June 2024

Rescue unsold surplus food from restaurants, bakeries, and anywhere that sells food.  Too Good to Go is a free app that anyone can download to purchase these surprise bags of food.  You won’t know what is in the bag until you pick it up from the store. 

For June, I didn’t encounter many new stores that I wanted to try from the app (such a far cry from last year where I would average 10 to 15 bags a month).

Here are my TWO hauls from Too Good To Go in the month of June 2024:

June 1:

SOSWEET TGTG $19.99 surprise bag

• SOSWEET (Markham)
• 90 Esna Park Dr., unit 12, Markham
• Pick up time:  6 to 7 p.m.
• Cake Bag:  $19.99 plus tax = $22.59
• Contents:  1 whole cake decorated with “happy birthday” and rabbit themed.  Cake guts was Oreo cookie with some blue jelly on top.
• Neat to try a full cake from this bakery!

June 13:

Bake and Cake Cafe TGTG $7.99 surprise bag

• Bake and Cake Cafe
• 1450 Centre St Unit 6, Thornhill
• Pick up time:  4 to 5 p.m.
• $7.99 plus tax = $9.03
• Contents:  Biscoff parfait, Donuts $4.50 x2, 5 leftover chocolate cake squares with vanilla and chocolate frosting.
• A nice assortment of their goods.  It was such a hot day that the frosting on the chocolate cake melted during the car ride home.  Had I known ahead of time, I would have brought some dry ice with me in the cooler.
• The parfait was interesting with a sweet topping but healthy oats in the bottom of the cup.  The donuts were stale.  The frosted cake was pretty good and standard.

I actually tried to get the meat bag from Metro almost every week in June.  I would successfully be able to reserve it but then they would cancel the bag the morning of because they didn’t have any surplus.  It’s such a challenge to get the Metro meat bag successfully!
