The 10 surprise bags I got in October 2024

A food waste prevention app called Too Good To Go is a fun way to try new restaurants and buy food for cheap!  Restaurants that participate on this free app can sell “surprise bags” of food that they weren’t able to sell by day’s end for 1/3rd of the original retail price. 

This blog post is my monthly roundup of the surprise bags that I buy.

A fun tidbit is that in the beginning of this month, I received an opportunity to chat virtually with one of the representatives of Too Good To Go.  According to them, I’m a “super user” of the app and they wanted to hear about my experience and feedback regarding the app.  It was a wonderful opportunity to talk about TGTG and share my passion for this app; I think it’s the best thing ever (along with Flashfood).  I shared the pros and cons of the app and I hope my feedback helps TGTG expand to more businesses in Canada and with more stayability too.

I bought 10 surprise bags in October 2024.  I haven’t bought double-digit surprise bags in one month in a while.  It’s fun when the husband works out-of-town so he can pick up these new surprise bags. ^_^

(Where there is a clear price tag of the goods, surprise bags that meet or are above the minimum value are marked with a green checkmark and surprise bags that do not meet the minimum value are marked with a red X.  E.g. If a surprise bag costs $7.99, the minimum value of goods received should be $24 worth.)

October 16:

This was a large hefty box.  The staff told us he threw in an extra slice too.  The pizza was thick and I liked the spicy meatballs.

Amazing assorted meat bag!  We hadn’t gotten a meat bag from Metro in a while (because the Church location always cancels their order the morning of), so I was so grateful that while the husband was in Oshawa for work, he was able to pick this up.  Tasty rib steak and stuffed mushrooms!

Yummy turkey club sandwich that smelled so good.  The kids loved the fruit cups.

Plump bagels (some seemed a bit stale).  Great variety.

7-Eleven TGTG $4.99 surprise bag

Wow, this was an amazing value bag and so delicious too!  The sandwiches and wraps were so tasty after heating them up, especially the breakfast and rotisserie chicken wraps.  I loved trying these brand new items! 🤩

Such great vegetable options in this bag.  Everything was really fresh too!

This was absolutely delicious!  The chicken biryani had such an intense spicy flavour but was so tasty.  The chicken was so tender too.  I absolutely loved the chickpea masala too.  The curry was overly spicy and had overwhelming amount of herbs in it.  Such a great bag!

I was really hoping for some milk or yogurt.  We did get yogurt, but it’s not one that the kids can eat.  C’est la vie for the unpredictability of surprise bags.  It’s cool to try a new product like this dairy-free pizza flatbread though!
