Want to buy groceries at a steep discount? Download a free app called “Flashfood” on your smartphone and see which supermarkets near you have unsold food that you can buy for 50% off or more!
Every month, I blog about what our family buys from Flashfood and share it with my readers here.
In February, Flashfood upgraded their app by adding new features like being able to add items to your cart right from the page (with the plus sign) and a new discount for new users! They also send an e-mail confirmation/receipt of your items now. You can use my referral code KARE4PEFC to get $5 off your first purchase of $7+. (It used to be that you had to purchase over $10 but now it’s $7.)
In February 2025, we spent $165.82 on Flashfood. (This is significantly less than usual because we had a hired postpartum cook this month.)
February 4:
Loblaws Richmond Hill (301 High Tech Rd, Richmond Hill):
- Mixed Produce Box (2 dragon fruits, 12 apples) $5. Paid $5.28 after 5% service fee and tax.
This was not a good deal. I thought the photo on Flashfood showed that there were more than two dragon fruits in the bag. These produce boxes costing $5 are not worth it when there are so few items in the bag. (I reached out to Flashfood and got a refund on this purchase.)
- Icelandic haddock fillets $6.74 (original price: $13.49),
- Steelhead trout fillet $4.05 (original price: $8.09),
- Faroe Island fillet $5.32 (original price: $10.63).
- Paid $17.02 for three items after 5% service fee and tax.
February 7:
Loblaws Richmond Hill:
- Canadian Cove mussels $0.94 (original price: $7.49). Paid $1.
When I saw the mussels were just 94 cents, I jumped at it and bought one pack.
- Mixed Produce Box (5 packs of strawberries, 1 pack of raspberries) $5. Paid $5.28.
It’s unfortunate that the produce boxes oscillate to being $5 sometimes instead of $3 at this location. $5 is still cheap, but not as great of a deal as $3.
- Mixed Produce Box (6 packs of raspberries) $5. Paid $5.28.
Very fresh raspberries.
- Mixed Produce Box (4 2lb-bags of blood oranges) $5. Paid $5.28.
- Mixed Produce Box (8 English cucumbers) $5. Paid $5.28.
- Mixed Produce Box (42 bananas) $4. Paid $4.23.
When the husband went to pick up this order, he was informed that the bag of bananas had gone rotten. The staff replicated the bag and provided him with a fresh one. So glad they did this for us!
February 8:
Peter & Suzi’s No Frills (5762 Hwy 7, Markham):
- Chicken Leg with Bone $4.70 (original price: $9.41),
- Chicken Leg with Bone $4.70 (original price: $9.40),
- Chicken Leg with Bone $4.68 (original price: $9.35),
- Chicken Leg with Bone $4.78 (original price: $9.57),

- Paid $24.63 for five items.
February 9:

- Oatmeal cookies $2.50 (original price: $5). Paid $2.65.
- Double chocolate mini muffins $2.25 (original price: $4.50),
- Butter croissants $2.50 (original price: $5).
- Paid $5.02 for two items.
So fresh and tasty baked goods!
Loblaws Richmond Hill:
- Mixed Produce Box (4 bags of Sweet Globe grapes) $5. Paid $5.28.
- Mixed Produce Box (1 bag of red onions) $5. Paid $5.28.
February 11:
Loblaws Richmond Hill:
- Mixed Produce Box (3 packs of corn) $5. Paid $5.28.
- Mixed Produce Box (2 packs of mushrooms) $5. Paid $5.28.
This was not worth it. In the past, I’ve received 3 packs of mushrooms for the price of $3.17 only at this same location. I am really not a fan of the new pricing at this Loblaws. (I reached out to Flashfood and they gave me a refund for this purchase.)
February 13:
Rob’s No Frills, Markham:
- Chocolate raspberry muffins $3 (original price: $6),
- Swiss lemon rolls $2.50 (original price: $5).
- Paid $5.82 for two items.
The chocolate raspberry muffins were sooo good and moist! I did flick off the sugar granules off of the top before eating though to decrease the amount of sugar ingested and also I didn’t like the texture of the large sugar grains anyway.
February 15:
Loblaws Richmond Hill:
- Mixed Produce Box (7 dragonfruits, 2 plums) $5. Paid $5.28.
February 16:
Rob’s No Frills, Markham:
- Banana loaf cake $2.50 (original price: $5),
- Garlic naan flatbreads $2.50 (original price: $5),
- Chocolate chip cookies $4 (original price: $8),
- Two-bite chocolate croissants $3 (original price: $6).
- Paid $12.68 for four items.
The sugar cravings continue haha — mostly chocolate items. (Am I lacking iron??)
February 23:
Loblaws Richmond Hill:
- Mixed Produce Box $3 (3 packs of sliced cremini mushrooms, 1 bag of blood orange, 1 bag of mandarins, 10 bananas). Paid $3.17.
- Mixed Produce Box $3 (4 bags of mandarins, 1 mango, 5 bananas). Paid $3.17.
- Mixed Produce Box $2 (18 broccoli crowns). Paid $2.11.
YAY! The $3 (or less) produce boxes are back at Loblaws Richmond Hill! ^_^
