The other day, I posted a picture for the Weekly Photo Challenge about my experience doing stand-up paddle boarding but I haven’t blogged about it yet. Now that I’m done my detox and back to my regular “schedule” of blogging again, the next post in my line-up (still very backlogged) is about the time when Sarah and I went stand-up paddle boarding on August 31.
She saw the Groupon for stand-up paddle boarding and bought it since we had talked about going this summer. We both had never done it before and wasn’t sure what to expect. We arrived a little late to Sunnyside Park (which is by Lake Ontario) on the west side of Toronto but thankfully made it there on time for the lesson at 1 p.m.
The Toronto Adventures tent was very prominent on the beach and we quickly signed our waivers before joining the small group for an introduction of the sport and how to use the paddles. Then we were off! We each took a big paddle that was sitting in the sand and put it on the water’s surface. We all started off on the paddles on our knees since we were getting used to using the paddle. It reminded me of kayaking except that the board wasn’t stable and you had to stable it yourself. Does that make sense? Lol. I found myself struggling a little bit to keep up with the others. When it came time to standing up on the paddle, it was really challenging since I was scared that I would fall. It didn’t help that at the time I was trying to stand up that the jets from the CNE show were flying in the sky and creating a really loud noise. It made the water super shaky too. Slowly, I was able to get up and get on my paddle board. Yay!
The whole experience was a lot of fun and it was a little challenging at times to turn the board around since the water was not calm and it was fairly windy. I’m so glad that I got to try this though! I love new experiences ^_^

Sounds like you had tons of fun! 😊
It definitely was! 🙂
What a fun experience! Thanks for sharing it with us. I’m looking forward to trying it now too, when the weather warms up again or when I’m far away in a tropical paradise next year! 😉
Haha, that’s quite a while to wait but I’m sure it will be worth it since you will be going on many many fun adventures next year! 🙂
