Too Good To Go hauls in June 2023

Here are my Too Good To Go hauls (31 surprise bags) from stores and restaurants in the Markham, Richmond Hill, Scarborough, and Toronto surrounding areas in June 2023.

(Where there is a clear price tag of the goods, surprise bags that meet or are above the minimum value are marked with a green checkmark and surprise bags that do not meet the minimum value are marked with a red X.  E.g. If a surprise bag costs $7.99, the minimum value of goods received should be $24 worth.)

June 2, 2023:

• This was a good bag from P&F for once without needing to complain about spoiled food.  The roast beef was more salty than we would have liked, but I enjoyed the other items especially the garlic bread, eclairs, and cheese.  My mom used the dried figs for Chinese soups over a span of couple of weeks.

• Contents:  2 barbari bread, 3 taftoon bread (I believe).
• My daughter really enjoys eating Persian flatbreads and I thought this haul would have been great for her.  I couldn’t believe how big the flatbreads were!  Unfortunately, I think the flatbreads were quite stale.  Because of this, she didn’t eat as much of it as I anticipated.

June 3, 2023:

• Contents:  7 mangoes, 3 yellow peppers, 3 red peppers, 2 cans of Nestea, 1 bag of Kettle chips.
• An interesting grocery haul.  The Kettle chips were past their expiry date but still crispy and good to eat.  My mom was thrilled with the mangoes.  Some of them were brown when cut open but still okay.

June 4, 2023:

• Contents:  6 assorted buns:  Whole Piece Purple Yam Bun $2.99, Chicken Nugget Burger $3.99, bun, pineapple bun,  New Orleans Fried Chicken Bun $2.80, croissant.
• Good haul.  The whole piece of purple yam baked inside the bun was so interesting!  We were a bit confused about the chicken buns actually.  They didn’t taste like chicken at first and I thought it was some kind of shrimp…

June 7, 2023:

• First time getting salads from this location that were not fresh.  The kale slaw and caesar salad kit were not “too good to go”.  This is my 6th or 7th bag.  The previous bags were all fully edible.

June 11, 2023:

• Contents:  Chopped Italian Salad $6.99, Fresh Vegetable Kebab $6.99, Mini Caesar Salad $3.99, Kale-Citrus Salad $6.99.  First time a Metro gave us the salad dressing packs too!  Total value: $24.96. ✅
• A few leaves in the salads were turning colour but everything else was good to eat.  The veggie kebab especially was SO fresh and delicious.  Perfect for BBQ season.

Hyper Fresh TGTG $4.99 surprise bag

• Assorted Produce:  $4.99 plus tax = $5.64
• Contents:  Grapefruit, 2 oranges, tomato, pomegranate, 2 apples, lettuce.
• This was a disappointing bag.  Items were fresh though.

• Prepared Meals:  $7.99 plus tax = $9.03
• Contents:  Rainbow Roll $10.99, Salmon Avocado Roll $10.49.  Total value:  $21.48. ❌
• I was very disappointed with this bag.  Bento Sushi previously always gave at-value bags.  This was the first time that I only received two items in one bag, meaning it’s under value.  I hope it was a one-off.

June 13, 2023:

• Prepared meals:  $5.99 plus tax = $6.77
• Contents:  Cheese pizza, 1 slice of spicy sausage pepperoni.
• Pizzas were good.  It’s funny that I was able to slice the cheese slices to form almost one whole pizza.

June 14, 2023:

• Contents:  Half and Half (spring mix, baby spinach) $4.99, Small Broccoli Salad $4.99, Chopped Italian Salad $6.99, Small Muskoka Chicken Salad with Nuts $8.49.  Total value: $25.46. ✅
• Most of the salad leaves in the Muskoka salad were wet and starting to go.. And the iceberg lettuce in the Italian salad were browning.  This was one of the less fresh salad bags I’ve received from this location thus far 😦

June 15, 2023:

• Nice to get not just pineapple buns from this location this time.  The brownies were good.

June 16, 2023:

Saint Germain Bakery TGTG $12.99 surprise bag

• Pick up time:  10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
• Cake:  $12.99 (no tax)
• Contents:  7 slices of cake:  2 slices of mango cake ($5.48 each); 3 slices of green tea, 1 mixed fruit, and 1 black forest cake ($4.98 each).  Total value:  $35.86. ❌
• Surprisingly, this cake box didn’t contain a full cake.  Instead, it was made up of individual cake slices.  It was really nice that we were able to try different flavours of their cake in this way.  But why couldn’t they have given one more slice of cake to make the bag reach value?

June 18, 2023:

• Contents:  6 cupcakes:  2 red velvet, 1 coconut, 2 pretzels, 1 chocolate with blue frosting. (6-pack of cupcakes for $27).  Total value:  $27. ✅
• Finally able to get a surprise bag from here!  I was really curious about this shop.  Very delicious cupcakes with light frosting.  They weren’t too sweet either.

Goldie’s TGTG $6.99 surprise bag

• Baked Goods & Assorted Juices:  $6.99 (no tax)
• Contents:  2 juices (grapefruit, lemonade), 4 bagels, 1 homemade bun, 1 croissant, 1 blueberry cheese Danish.
• Another great pick-up from this shop!  Very consistent quality and amount of items in the bag.  Their refreshing drinks are the best part of the bag.

June 20, 2023:

La Prep TGTG $6.99 surprise bag

• So, so impressed and happy with this haul!  Look at how many items we got!  I didn’t realize that the banana was part of it until after I took the photo, haha (I thought the hubs brought back a banana from work he didn’t eat, but he told me it was actually part of the haul).

• Back to getting another great bag from this location! 🙌
• Over minimum value despite not finding exact prices of the 2 salads.  All 4 salad kits BB date wasn’t until two days later.  Very happy with this bag.

June 21, 2023:

Happy Meal Canada Inc. TGTG $7.99 surprise bag

• This was not a good haul.  The containers used are actually smaller than the typical black plastic containers, making this haul even smaller than it looks in the photo.  Food tasted mediocre — how is this good for postpartum?

June 22, 2023:

• LOVED this haul!  What great variety and everything was fresh and delicious!  No wonder this branch is rated so highly on the app!

• A very good haul too from this Longo’s branch.  The chicken tinga fajita meal was great.

June 23, 2023:

• Contents:  Crepe roll (mango, matcha, oreo) $13.95, Pineapple bun red bean $2.19, Raisin bun $1.95, Matcha sticky rice milk bun $2.49, Cheese blueberry bun $2.49.  Total value: $23.07. ❌
• Very unique bakery items.  I actually expected a little more…   The Crepe Roll sounded good by name, but it was really just crepe wrapped with flavoured cream.

June 24, 2023:

HB Food Outlet TGTG $7.99 surprise bag

• Pick up time:  10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• Shrimp Dim Sum:  $7.99 plus tax = $9.03
• Contents:  3 packs of shrimp dim sum.  Each pack has 6 ha gow and 6 siu mai.  Frozen.
• Steamed 2 packs for dinner and it was yummy 😀👌.
• Pickup was a bit dicey.  There was a door at unit 16 with the sign on it that says “HB food outlet”.  When you open the door, you head straight up a long narrow flight of stairs, and then someone will greet you.

Let’s Soup TGTG $7.99 surprise bag

• Ahh, so happy!  Finally got this bag!  What an amazing haul of Chinese soups!!  They tasted so homey and nutritious!  Hot and ready-to-drink upon pickup.

June 25, 2023:

Sugar Queen Patisserie TGTG $6.99 surprise bag

• All so good and a great variety 😄.

June 27, 2023:

• Contents:  Brisket $7.99, Bean dip $8.99, Apple Cheesecake Donuts $4.99, Storemade Garlic Bread $2.99, Maple Pecan Danish $5.49.  Total value: $30.45. ✅
• What appears to be a great haul is greatly let down by the BB dates of the products: bean dip expired 6 days ago on June 21, apple cheesecake donuts and Maple pecan Danish both expired 3 days ago on June 24.
• Worst yet, upon opening the bean dip, there was mold visible on the lid.  Ick.  Good thing I was able to see it because someone could have missed it!
• The brisket was (again) salty.  The other baked items tasted fine.

• Okay, so the other undervalued bag from Bento Sushi wasn’t a one-off.  It seems like they do this on purpose now.  It’s so disappointing because unless they correct the value, I’m never buying another TGTG surprise bag from them.

June 28, 2023:

• Another solid bag from La Prep.  This time, there was less variety of items but I was still content with it.

June 30, 2023:

April Sweets TGTG $7.99 surprise bag

• Contents:  6 cupcakes:  4 chocolate, 2 vanilla. (6-pack of cupcakes for $27).  Total value:  $27. ✅
• Received 6 cupcakes again.  This time, there was fewer variety than last time.  Still light frosting and not too sweet cupcakes, which is a win.  (In hindsight, I regret spending on this bag because it was so similar to the first one — I wanted something a different surprise haha.)

Bingz Crispy Burger TGTG $4.99 surprise bag

• Surprise Bag:  $4.99 plus tax = $5.64
• Contents:  4 Crispy Burgers:  2 The Signature ($5.59 each), 2 BBQ Mushroom ($5.59 each).  Total value:  $22.36. ✅
• Ah, I couldn’t believe I got this bag!  I saw it around 11 p.m. at night after the baby fell asleep and saw 3 bags available!  I immediately told the hubs who said “go for it” and reserved it!  (I saw 3 more bags afterwards too — the long weekend really helps us TGTGers eat well 😂.)
• So happy with this bag.  It was my first time having Bingz’s crispy burgers since 2020.  The two types of crispy burgers were absolutely mouth-wateringly delicious.  Incredibly crispy bun (with crispy flakes that fall off) with a savory umami filling of meat.  The BBQ mushroom was peppery and the bits of mushroom helped give a chewy texture.  I can’t wait to try another bag from this store!  (Also very grateful we live just 5 minutes away from Bingz.  Otherwise, getting this bag this late at night would be a very unlikely scenario.)
