A Little Meal and Catch-up at Wimpy’s Diner

Located at 2900 Steeles Avenue East in Thornhill

My friend Grace currently suffers from an autoimmune disease and has eczema which has plagued her life and normal day-to-day routine for the past several months.  She’s slowly getting better but is still only able to come out on really good days and for short periods of time.  (Get better soon, Grace!)  I was lucky enough to meet up with Grace and catch up over some greasy food at this diner-style restaurant in Thornhill.

The only server at Wimpy’s that day was very friendly and easy to talk to.  She commended Grace on choosing the Wimpy’s Philly Chicken sandwich as she truly believed that it was the best sandwich in the world.

Here’s what it looked like:

Wimpy’s Philly Chicken Sandwich. $10.49
-sautéed with peppers and Spanish onions. Smothered with melted mozzarella and served on a lightly toasted ciabatta bun

I tasted a piece of the chicken and liked it!  Grace seemed to really like it as well.

Wimpy’s Junior Burger Melt. $7.49
-classic Wimpy’s 6 oz burger grilled to perfection and smothered in cheddar cheese

I ordered the Wimpy’s Junior Burger Melt.  It looked really good in picture form on the menu and I did want something cheesy and meaty.  Wimpy’s is a diner-style restaurant chain that has over 20 restaurant chains in Ontario alone.  It’s pretty popular and it’s funny that it’s only my first time stepping into one.  They serve a lot of diner food that is characteristically greasy and hearty.  I personally don’t go to enough diner food places to enjoy it enough even though I really do enjoy this type of food.

Look at that cheese. Now that’s a true “melt” burger

I liked the Junior Burger Melt and it was definitely a greasy burger.  It had 6 ounces of burger and cheddar cheese.  The toast was fairly crispy and dry with lots of oil soaked into it.  It was good but not amazing.  I’m not sure if I would order this again as Wimpy’s has so many other selections of food on their menu.  I’d love to come back again to try more varieties of greasy goodness. 🙂

A neat thing about the restaurant is that there are so many old movie posters and relics around the diner. It really makes it seem like an old-fashioned place to visit and dine in
