Weekly Photo Challenge: Beginning

Taken at the Toronto Zoo in May 2010 when I was leading a group of Grade 1s on a field trip during my internship to become a teacher

Beginning: “”A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” ~Lao-tzu

This picture represents not only the 6-year-olds’ hands, signifying youth and lots of new beginnings, but also the paw of a Canadian polar bear.  It is with that first step that we take in life towards our dreams and goals that we begin something new.

  3. I like the juxtaposition of the paw and the little hands. Is that a photo of the paw or is the bear on the other side of the glass?

Thank you! This is one of my favourite photos. 🙂 It is a picture of the moment when the grade 1 kids put their hands up to “touch” the paw of the polar bear that was swimming on the other side of the glass. It was really cute.
