Paramount Chinese Cuisine & Banquet Hall not only hosts special events like weddings, birthdays, and corporate gatherings, but they also serve dim sum in the mornings! My family and I tried out their dim sum on a cold winter morning and I have to say I was quite pleased with the food. 🙂
We ordered lots of steamed baskets, fried portions, congee, rice in hot pot, and other classic dim sum goodies to share. I liked how the baskets here are square-shaped instead of the typical round ones at every other Chinese restaurant. You check off the food items on an order sheet (seen here online) and submit it to one of the servers. We didn’t have to wait very long for the food to arrive on the table.
We knew we wanted to try this one after seeing “ginseng” in its name. Turns out these are just regular shrimp dumplings sitting in a small pool of ginseng soup. It was still yummy though. The skin of the dumpling was very soft:
The quantity of the congee was well worth the price! The congee itself was creamy and yummy too:
The dumpling skin was fried to a crisp. Literally! So crunchy when you bit into it:
Though they look dry, these chicken wings were surprisingly tasty!
I loved this minced meat congee! I’m a huge fan of minced meat in congee and this really hit the spot especially since there was a raw egg that cooked into the congee too! So yummy.
I love scallion & egg pancakes! Especially the Shanghainese variety. This one could have been more crunchy on the outside:
These were so good!! I loved how creamy and smooth the milk was inside the tart:
There were very few pieces of Enoki mushroom embedded in these beef balls:
I liked the cozy feeling of eating rice from a hot pot. There’s something really fulfilling about it: : )
We’ve never had dessert like this before, so we gave it a shot. Everyone else but me agreed that it was too dry and didn’t like it. I found that the taro mush was actually not bad:
Not to say that the food wasn’t delicious, but we noticed that the majority of the food tasted neither very flavourful nor bland. I think this might attribute to the fact that they use minimal amounts of MSG in their cooking. It’s a good thing. 🙂 All of their dim sum portions are quite generous too.
If you order your food from 9-11:30 a.m. from Monday to Friday or come on a weekend/holiday 9-10:30 a.m., then each dish, no matter what size (small, medium, or large), is all $3. There is a tea surcharge of $1.50 per person.

oh!! how did I miss this post? I find the little steam boxes so cute and I’m a HUGE fan of ha kau! especially century egg and minced meat congee. I have it all the time at that Number 9 restaurant I mentioned earlier, Everything looks so good 😀

Wua…raw egg! they used to serve it that way here in most restaurants but now it’s already minced and you just don’t get the same texture in the center anymore 😦 sigh!
This is actually the first time I’ve had a raw egg in my minced meat congee! It was so good that I can’t imagine not having it in future congee meals
