December 4, 2018: I came back to eat here!! 😀 I initially visited this new restaurant called Luscious 5 Kitchen + Bar with Betty on October 17 for lunch. I remember noticing this restaurant when driving on Woodbine Avenue and that it had replaced the previous Maison du Japon restaurant.
I remember on that visit how new the restaurant was and that since I was one of the first customers there for lunch on a weekday, the restaurant was empty at first. The server engaged me in friendly conversation as I was waiting for my friend by showing me the holiday menu. I also learned at this time that the restaurant used to be an all-you-can-eat Japanese restaurant and that the owners were carried over from the previous restaurant.
We had ordered the Capellini Pesto pasta and a Poke Bowl – Salmon with Sushi Rice. I fell in love with the pesto dish since the pasta noodles were thin and tender, the type that I like, and which carried the savory pesto sauce so well. The garlic bread on the side was perfectly crispy and seasoned too.
The poke bowl was so large and full of fresh and delicious ingredients! The sushi rice was perfect too. What a great lunch we had!

Poke Bowl (Salmon with Sushi Rice). $14
-served with seaweed salad, avocado, corn, carrot, edamame, crispy Japanese sesame dressing
On this second visit, I was met with a starkly different atmosphere. When we walked in for lunch at around 12:30 p.m., the tables were full and there were so many lunch-goers. The entire restaurant was abuzz with chatter and lots of people enjoying their lunch.
I ordered my beloved Capellini Pesto (very thin variety of Italian pasta) from last time and we shared a Maki set. The servers were just as pleasant and professional as last time. We had a broccoli soup as well as a miso soup that was part of the lunch set.
The Capellini Pesto pasta dish was as delicious as I remembered it from the last visit. The flavouring was full and savory, just the way I like it. The portion was also as large as last time too. 😀 You can easily share this dish since there’s so much of it.
(It’s a super easy pasta to make with simple ingredients [fresh basil, garlic, pinenuts, parmesan cheese, olive oil] that I later started to replicate it at home too.)
The LB4 Set came with 6 California Rolls, 6 Popcorn Chicken Rolls, (imitation) Crab sushi, and Shrimp sushi. These were so good too. I was very pleased.
I’m definitely coming back for more. I want to support this little hidden gem. 🙂
(It was as we left that I was aware that it’s called ‘Lucious 5’ because they feature five items: sushi, ramen, pasta, burgers, Asian food.) 😀
