We were in Vaughan and looking for a restaurant to eat lunch at. Pür & Simple had a lot of great reviews on Google Maps, so we decided to try it. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by the host and invited to try a sample of their green smoothie (I believe it was the Green Giant). It was very refreshing. It wasn’t until we were seated at the table that I noticed they actually had booth seats in the middle of the restaurant. Booth seats would have been more ideal for our family as we have a toddler. In my opinion, an experienced host would have probably placed us at a booth seat instead of at a table that was close to the walkway to the kitchen where staff were walking in and out of.
One of the reasons I chose a breakfast restaurant was because I wanted to eat a smoked salmon eggs benedict. I hadn’t had one in a restaurant for probably five years (since the pandemic) since I’ve been pregnant for three of the past five years (and you’re not supposed to eat raw eggs). My husband chose a smashed burger.
There were lots of items on the Pür & Simple menu. I have to give kudos to the menu designer and food photographer because everything looked so appetizing and inviting. There were many different types of dishes and I would have been curious to try more of them had we been a bigger party. For example, the eggs benedict with kimchi looked great. The pancakes, omelettes, and skillets all looked really appealing too. As I flipped through the pages of the menu, I remember wondering if our food would look as good as the photos.
We placed our order with the server and the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time.

Norwegian Benedict $22
-2 poached eggs, English muffin, Hollandaise sauce, paprika, smoked salmon, red onions, tomatoes, capers
Unfortunately, the Norwegian Benedict that I got was disappointing. The Hollandaise sauce was steaming hot and completely covered and drenched the egg and the slices of smoked salmon that were underneath it such that it overcooked the smoked salmon and it tasted like cooked salmon. This was not what I anticipated or wanted at all. I’ve had plenty of smoked salmon eggs benedicts in my lifetime and when done right, all of them have a red colour and where the smoked salmon is still cold and raw. I couldn’t believe that this dish fell short of how a typical smoked salmon eggs benedict should taste! Perhaps they also placed the dish under a heating lamp for too long which further heated up the smoked salmon.
I was so disappointed that I actually informed the server about this mishap. She asked if I wanted to escalate it to a manager and I said yes. Long story short, the manager asked if I wanted the dish to be redone with the smoked salmon placed on a separate dish to prevent it from being overdone again. I was a bit shocked that this was her response; I thought that they would be able to correct the mistake by simply ensuring the smoked salmon would still be in its “rawer” form but still placed on the English muffin. Nevertheless, I agreed to this as it didn’t seem like there was anything else she could do as a resolution to my disappointment and they were able to bring me a brand new dish with the smoked salmon on a separate dish and the dish in its original form on a new plate.
Although the texture of the smoked salmon was still not what I am usually used to (the fish seems more flaky and easy to heat up than normal), I was satisfied with the correction and their willingness to give me a new plate.
I easily ate up everything on my plate. I appreciated that there was an abundance of Hollandaise sauce and a beautifully poached egg. The S&P potatoes were mediocre and I couldn’t figure out why they were so “famous”. There was half of a strawberry, a wedge of orange, and pineapple on my plate as well.

Smash Burger $19.75
-2 beef patties, cheddar, Montreal steak spice, sauteed red onions, pickles, tomatoes, mayonnaise, a sunny-side egg, brioche bun, seasoned French fries
I tried the Smash Burger that the husband ordered. It had 2 beef patties, cheddar, Montreal steak spice, sauteed red onions, pickles, tomatoes, mayonnaise, and a sunny-side egg served on a brioche bun with seasoned French fries on the side. It tasted good with two patties and the pickles especially. I liked the shoestring French fries as well. They were seasoned well.
All in all for my first-time experience at Pur & Simple, I was disappointed with my smoked salmon benedict but I was impressed that the manager made amends, left me satisfied, and that I was heard. I think their menu items are a tad overpriced.
While the restaurant has plenty of high chairs and booster seats for babies and toddlers, I was dismayed to see that they did not have a changing table in any of their washrooms. I liked that when you flipped over their paper placemats, they had fun activities for kids to draw on and complete. They had three different placemats at our table. I liked the attention to detail.
