Daniel’s Restaurant (Hong Kong)

It’s funny because the English translation of this Chinese café’s name is “steamed egg man” (金裝燉奶佬餐廳) which implies that this restaurant sells steamed egg puddings as their specialty.  However, it turns out that Daniel’s Restaurant is just a regular Hong Kong style café.  They don’t even sell any steamed egg at all!   Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Local

 Markham sunsets

Markham, Ontario. September 2016

A simple photo for this week’s photo challenge of “local”.  This photo was taken a month ago in Markham as the setting sun revealed some pretty watercolour-like tones on the late summer sky.  It’s interesting how different seasons will give you different sunset colours.  I drive on this road often; it’s 16th Avenue for those of you living in Markham. 🙂   Continue reading

Paid to blog

To be honest, I’m not sure how long this will last because it just sounds too good to be true.  I’m counting my blessings today and thanking Buddha for where this journey is going to take me because I got an offer today to become a paid food blogger.   Continue reading

Home (after one month in Asia) – 2016

A little more than 3 years ago, I arrived home with a similar desire to blog about my thoughts after being away for a month.  That was also when the idea of this blog was born into life and thus, we can see ourselves here now.

I returned home back to Toronto this past Tuesday after travelling for a month in Asia — to Hong Kong, South Korea, and Japan.   Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: H2O

Hokuten no Oka Lake Abashiri Tsuruga Resort, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan

Hokuten no Oka Lake Abashiri Tsuruga Resort, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan. October 2016

[Post-dated post]. Hard to believe that a little pool of water can give you so much relaxation, health benefits, and MOOD!  One of the highlights of my trip to Hokkaido this past first week of October has been the onsen from the hot springs in Japan.  It’s simply a pool of H2O, but when you soak into that hot, steaming bath water, the feeling is simply indescribable.   Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Nostalgia

Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong

Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. September 2016

[Post-dated post].  Literally just came back from Hong Kong a day and a half ago but I’m already missing it.  This photo is of the Hong Kong skyscrapers and buildings from the 18th floor of the BP International Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui.  Although I go to Hong Kong relatively often — about once a year — looking back at this photo, I really want to be back there again.   Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Quest

Pokemon Go screenshot looking for Farfetch'd

Pokemon Go screenshot, Hong Kong. September 2016

Quest:  What an easy and most appropriate photo theme for me this week! 😂  I’m currently on vacation in Asia and since collecting virtual reality creatures, called Pokemon, are region-specific, it is only here in Asia that I can capture something called a Farfetch’d.   Continue reading

On the second day of Hong Kong in 2016, we went to 合益泰小食 (Hop Yik Tai) in Shum Shui Po on 121 Kweilin Street to have lunch.  Apparently this place boasts the best cheung fun (rice noodles) in Hong Kong.  I was excited to try it out. 😀   Continue reading

On my first day coming back to Hong Kong, we ate at Watei Japanese Restaurant for an early dinner (which fit well because I was experiencing jet lag and highly exhausted after an hour or so into the dinner).  Watei Japanese Restaurant is located at Shop 133, 134A & 136C, 1/F, Cityu One Plaza, City One in Sha Tin.   Continue reading
