Speed test congratulatory e-mails

Whenever I open my work e-mail and see 20+ unopened e-mails, I know instantly that there have been students who have passed their speed tests.  Whenever a student completes and passes a test (you need 95% minimum accuracy to pass), an e-mail is sent out to all of the staff members at the school.  Each of us then sends a congratulatory e-mail to the amazing student for a job well done.  I just replied to 5 of them.  And you know what, all five of these were my students that I taught in Phoenix Theory. ^-^ Continue reading

The two best things at Costco

…are the seasoned rotisserie chicken and the Tuxedo cake.

Every time we’ve bought the rotisserie chicken home from the meats section at Costco, I’m never disappointed.  The chicken is always cooked to perfection with the inside juicy, sooo tender and juicy.   Continue reading

Everything durian

Chocolate-covered durians. Durians are called the “king of fruits”. Mmm dark chocolate… 🙂

This morning, I ate durian chocolates for breakfast.   Yup, you read that right.  When I went to Malaysia, one of the stops was to the Cocoa Boutique & Chocolate Gallery.  Here you could try everything chocolate — Malaysia is famous for their chocolate-covered fruits.

Job Shadowing Jade King on the Hong Kong Lamma Boat Inquiry

The following is a detailed recount of the experience that I had job shadowing Jade King.

Last year when I met up with stenographer extraordinaire Jade King, I wasn’t able to job shadow her as planned. Instead, we were able to partake in some productive discussions about steno: realtime work, professional versus student machines, finger spelling words, etc. It was the first time I met Jade and she had opened up my eyes to a lot that I didn’t know about in the steno world. Needless to say, the experience was memorable and I absorbed a lot of knowledge and wisdom from her.   Continue reading

A quiet weekend

Sometimes it’s nice to just sit at your computer and surf while munching on snacks.  Not everyone needs to party or socialize with every member of your circle of friends every day, right?  This weekend, I’m going to put in some steno time, organize some blog posts, and just rest.  I’ve had enough travelling this month.  Just feeling happy to stay put for a while. 🙂   Continue reading

Breakfast burrito

Mmmm. This morning on the way to work, I stopped by McDonald’s on a whim to pick up two of their breakfast burritos. I haven’t had these in years! So warm and yummy as I remember them to be. Does anyone like these as much as I do? I seriously think these and the Sausage McMuffins are the two best items on the menu. Speaking of McDonald’s, the ones in Hong Kong have fried chicken wings that they call “McWings”. In my honest opinion, I truly think they’re the best wings IN THE WORLD. Continue reading

Jet lag part 2

Jet lag still has its hold on me; I’ve been waking up at 4:30 a.m. — WIDE awake — for the past several mornings. Hello, world! 🙂

Jet lag

This is the third night where I’ve passed out slept after dinner time and woke up at 9 p.m. I don’t think I’m adjusting well to Toronto time at all. Maybe I should just go back to Hong Kong again. That’s been on my mind A LOT recently…

NCRA 2012 Convention and Exposition

First time attending the NCRA Annual Convention in Philadelphia

I wrote this in September 2012 last year after I attended the NCRA Convention.  Enjoy!

On August 9-12, I travelled to Philadelphia to attend the NCRA 2012 Convention and Exposition. This is an annual event hosted by the NCRA (National Court Reporters Association) where court reporters, CART providers, captioners, firm owners, and students come together from all over the world to network with others in the field. Meeting Jade, Steno Blogger and Court Reporter

This is a reflection piece I wrote for my court reporting school last year on February 8, 2012.  The same piece is also located on my school’s blog: http://verbatimstudies.com/wp/?p=58

This winter holiday, I traveled to Hong Kong to visit my relatives. I also took this opportunity to visit Jade King, a realtime court reporter who works at the Hong Kong High Court and International Arbitration Centre.

Chatting it up at the local coffee shop in Sai Kung

Jade and I chatting it up at the local coffee shop in Sai Kung

Jade has worked in captioning, CART, and the courts in Australia, and recently moved to Hong Kong to further her job aspirations. I first learned about Jade when a fellow CCVS classmate posted the link to her blog on the forums about six months ago. Continue reading
