Today’s practice — April 17

I finally got in some solid practice time today.  Yay!  I’ve been craving it since I started teaching Phoenix Theory full-time.  It’s 6:44 p.m. now and I have over 2.5 hours of practice.  I did some Speed Plus (still doing them from the 80 wpm book — 80.703 to be specific), Blackboard testimony practice at 180 wpm, and some youtube videos to keep me entertained.  Woohoo!  It’s not much, but it’s a start.   Continue reading

Restaurant Story

I’m a little embarrassed to put up this post, but it’s okay because 90% of my friends probably don’t read this space anyway (Oh, wait.  What’s that sudden increase of views from Canada lately even though I haven’t put up new posts since last week?  Whatever.)  My revelation: I’VE BEEN PLAYING RESTAURANT STORY for the last two days!  Like an addicted nitwit   It’s pretty funny because the first time that a friend of mine said she had to pause our face-to-face conversation due to the fact that she had to “collect” tips or “serve” food so that it wouldn’t spoil, I was all are-you-f’ing-kidding-me face.   Continue reading

Motivation for court reporting students, or really just anybody trying to reach their goals

I’ve been practising today.  Practising for accuracy.  I just need to make sure I do this every single day.  Consistency is #1.   Continue reading

Snow in April 2013!

I like to be egotistical and think that because I was away from Toronto during its wintery season that I missed the snow and cold temperatures so Mother Nature is giving me a taste of what I missed.  Snow in April!  I actually really like it.  I just came back from  travelling in countries with hot climates so I’m not in a rush to get into it again.  Cold weather?  Winter storm watch?  Bring it on! 😀

Gorgeous!

First World Problems

I can’t believe I’m writing about this, but I’m currently facing a dire first world problem. 😦 I’ve been alerted by my Internet provider that I’ve reached 75%+ of my Internet usage for the month! ! ! !  (How did this happen?!  Actually, I know — too much photo-sharing on Dropbox.) I want to put up new blog posts with lots of pictures, but I can’t because I’m afraid I might exceed my bandwidth.   Continue reading

Writing fast

I love how when I’m practising on my steno machine and I glance upon my CaseCAT software and I see that my WPM counter rises and rises with each stroke I make.  I was practising just now and I spotted that it went up to 200 wpm!  Of course, this counter is not at all accurate, since it’s just counting approximately how many strokes I’m making per minute and it actually might not be the actual number of words per minute.   Continue reading

It begins… Chinese Consulate dinner

Tonight I went to the Chinese Consulate dinner with the participants and committee members for the DiSCOVER 2013 program.  The highlight of the dinner was to meet Deputy Consul General Zhang Meifang and Mon Sheong Foundation First Vice Chair Frank Chau was the gracious one to treat all 40ish of us to a wonderful 10-course dinner at the Dragon Dynasty restaurant in Scarborough   Long story short, I applied in January (and got in) to this program in hopes to gain more knowledge about Chinese culture, make new friends, learn to be a community leader, give back to the community, and to get to go on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to China!   Continue reading

So cute! Soft and warm babies ^_^

Time for some cuteness. Here are some pictures of the puppies that my aunt and uncle brought home a few weeks ago. The first weekend we went to pick them up, my aunt picked up a girl and a boy. Continue reading

Reflections

…because I like to be all reflective and reminiscent sometimes, this time last year, I was job shadowing a court reporter for the very first time.  I still remember how nervous I was.  Actually, I still had my student machine back then! Right now, I’m stenoing this from my Diamante as I always do when I’m on the computer.  The QWERTY keyboard is almost foreign to me now.   Continue reading

Workaholic

I’m such a nerd.  I just finished working 12 hours and I’m home and I’m excited to start up my Case Case software and my answer keys and my Excel spreadsheet and my doodle paper in hand to start marking the rest of my students’ dictations!!!  I have 38 to mark.  Let’s see how many I can get in before I sleep tonight.  Time is now 10:44 p.m.  Ready?  GO!   Continue reading
