Day 14: Last full day in china.
I feel like my body knows it’s time to return to eastern standard time already. It’s currently 5:32 am on july 30 and i’m not even that tired. I only slept 2 hrs last night.
None of this makes sense. (It doesn’t make sense because I usually would get sick if I get such few hours of sleep each night back at home.)
Today was a free half day for us. No tour bus. No tour guide. We woke up at 6ish, ate breakfast, and then 10 ish of us rode the subway to the China Media Centre. It was sweaty and hot. When we got there, the representative talked to us and answered our questions. He couldn’t answer mine about live captioning. Fail. Then we were done from 8:30 to 9:30. We went over the the People’s Square where the other half of the group who opted for the museum were still browsing. We got to go to the museum too. Yay! We looked at Chinese calligraphy, paintings, jade, and costumes. Then we travelled to Ding Tai Fung in a taxi to have lunch. Such yummy and succulent dumplings!
Then we all dispersed into various groups; godwin, helen, herman, jen, mandy and i went together. Helen and jen went to get a massage while the 4 of us went to the propaganda poster art museum. It was neat. Bumped into some of the others there too. Then we met up with h and j at Tian Zi Fang. Bought some souvenirs for ppl. Such a nice place! Just like the distillery district 🙂 yup.
Then we had dinner at a rice noodle (cross bridge noodles) place in the underground part of a mall. It had really silly and childish servers.. (ask me in person for the back story about this). I accidentally ordered the spicy noodle and couldn’t finish it. Sorry :(. I then ordered a big milk tea with tons of stuff in it to make up for my lack of dinner.
Herman, Mandy, and I decided to take the subway to go back to the hotel to change. Travelling there took longer than expected. It was very difficult to find the correct exit. Finally, we got to the Ritz Carlton hotel at 9pm. Despite some early mishaps, we got to go to the 58th floor and enjoy the massive view of Shanghai’s cityline. So amazing. We drank, chatted, enjoyed the view, and took too many pictures. Back to hotel at 1am.
