Eat Fresh Be Healthy

Located at 185 Dundas Street West in Toronto

I’ve been hearing of Eat Fresh Be Healthy for a while now.  My friend Vivian posted a picture of the food she ate from here on facebook and commented on how the food was affordable and really great!  So when Priscilla and I were thinking of a restaurant to go to recently, we arrived here on a humid summer day.

They have a prix fixe dinner here where they say “the only place you can have a prix fixe gourmet meal here any time of the year”.  I think when they say that that they are referring to the prix fixe Summerlicious and Winterlicious events that only occur twice a year.

“sustainable healthy delicious foods prepared with unique ingredients gained from local farmers and food producers”

Priscilla had previously been to this restaurant before and enjoyed the food.  They had such an impressive selection for their appetizers!  I was so excited about it.  For my appetizer, I chose the spicy lamb rolls even though I was intrigued by the Pan seared Quail and Butter Chicken Drumsticks.

The spicy lamb roll arrived in a surprise form — the roll was fried like a spring roll and filled with potato and veggies.  There were bite-sized pieces of lamb inside the roll and it came with bright pink pomegranate sauce.  The lamb was a little more dry and rough than I liked and I wish the sauce was in a dippable container instead of just slathered on the plate.  I tried a bite of the quail and it was delicious!!  It was so tender and juicy and flavourful (perfect three requirements all checked off).  I loved the presentation of both dishes.

Seafood Pasta with fresh Herb Tomato Broth

The entrees were super impressive.  The size of the appetizers were already larger in scale than most, and the entrees were even bigger!  Priscilla ordered the seafood pasta which was topped with lots of mussels, juicy shrimps, and really smooth and soft pasta.  There was tomato sauce over everything.  I really enjoyed the texture of the pasta and how large the shrimps were.

Maple Mustard Glazed Pan seared Double Cut Pork Chop

My maple glazed pork chops were massive.  They were bigger than the size of my fist!  It was paired with mashed potatoes (these were so-so; not smooth) and veggies (the peas tasted a little raw).  The pork chop was high-quality and didn’t contain a lot of fatty parts.  It was so large that I obviously couldn’t finish the plate and packed it home.  I only ended up finishing less than a quarter of it (lol).

Look at how big that pork chop is!

Alfonso Mango Panna Cotta

For dessert, we both ordered the mango panna cotta.  This panna cotta was unique also in the way that it was presented.  It resided in a pool of mango sauce with white chocolate shavings so that when you scooped it to drink, it was infused with chocolate shavings.  It was delicious!  The mango panna cotta itself may seem too soft and mushy for some people but I still enjoyed it.  There seemed to be small chocolate round bits in the dessert as well.  Despite being so full already, I finished this whole dessert with the plate clean. 🙂

SO good!

Eat Fresh Be Healthy is so much smaller than I imagined it to be.  There was only one server working all the tables and whom I suspect is an owner of the restaurant too.  She was friendly and came around often to check on us.  The only downside to the service was that it was incredibly humid on this day and their AC didn’t seem to be working.  Beads of sweat were rolling down my body as we were eating which is never a good thing for a restaurant.  Nevertheless, the food prevailed and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends. 🙂
