Remember when I said that simple is much needed and desired every so often? After we came back from our Eurotrip, we wanted something hydrating and simple. So we searched out a congee shop and found this one! Apparently Ocean Empire has locations all over HK and is a clean, fast-food-like, chain restaurant that specializes in congee. Yum!
We ordered a congee set that came with noodles and fried dough and then another bowl by itself. At the front of the store, there is a big list of all the different varieties of congee (what ingredients and toppings you want). You choose and pay at the front and then line up to receive your order.
I didn’t expect this restaurant to be so big! Just look at how many seats and tables there are. I like how spacious, clean, and bright the place was.
I loved my minced beef congee. Minced beef is delicious in hot congee since it makes the beef so soft and crumbly yet maintains its flavour. Yum!
The stir-fried vermicelli was only okay. It was a bit burnt in some areas and I made sure to pick those bits out before chowing down.
So many people are fan of congee, a rice porridge kind of meal that Asians like to have as an alternative to rice. It’s a great breakfast food and especially for days when you don’t feel well and can’t take solids.

Minced beef and congee, with a fried stick! I think we are gonna get along just fine Karen 😄😄
Hehe 😀
