August 7, 2017: Our last day in Montreal was spent leaving and getting back to Ontario. We woke up and first enjoyed the continental breakfast at the hotel though which was pretty good.
It was the Civic long weekend so many other tourists were getting back home to the west as well. We left the hotel at around 11 a.m.
By 12:30 p.m., Google Maps was able to find us a casual spot for lunch which turned out to be a really delicious place! I love little gems like these even more than the hyped-up restaurants sometimes. I like that they’re less known and that I was the one who “stumbled” upon it instead of following the mass crowds on what to eat and where.
This place was called Casse-Croute Chez Tipit (620 Rue Principale, Rivière-Beaudette) in Rivière-Beaudette, Quebec (so we still hadn’t left Quebec yet at of that time). It had a small parking lot and a take-out order right at the front. It was mainly a spot for travellers to hop in, order a burger or coffee, and then hit the road right away again. Fortunately, they did have a dining room so we opted to dine in.
The dining room was a no frills kind of square room with tables and chairs. There were many windows all around the room that let you see the main road as well as the back which had a patio and lots of grassy area with red hexagon-shaped picnic tables. It was a really nice spot!
There was only one server (or it may have been the owner) who tended to us who was also managing the take-out orders at the front. After placing our orders from the laminated menus, our food came out in a reasonable time.
I ordered the “3 Morceaux de Poutlet Frit” (3 pieces of fried chicken) while Ken got two Toastie Hot Dogs combo with a drink and fries plus a Chicken Burger.

3 Morceaux de Poutlet Frit (3 pieces of fried chicken). 10,90$
-fries, burger buns, gravy, coleslaw, pickle
I loved my order of fried chicken! There were three large pieces of fried chicken on a pair of burger buns with French fries and gravy on the side. There was also some coleslaw and a slice of pickle too on the side. I can be very picky with fried chicken but this was really amazing fried chicken! The skin was flaky and well-seasoned and the chicken was moist and juicy. The fries were quite good too. I couldn’t finish it all though so I packed the remainder to go.
Ken’s hot dogs and chicken burger were good too.
I really liked this casual restaurant/take-out place. If you are ever in this area, I recommend it as a quick-stop meal. The server was accommodating and friendly as well.
Then we went back on the road again! We did face some traffic heading back into Ontario… as expected I guess.
For dinner, we ate at Noodle Star for some good old Chinese comfort food. 🙂
What a great foodie trip this was! Recounting back the stories and looking through the photos, we had such an ambitious and successful foodie trip. The weather was good all three days (with the exception of some rain showers on the first night), but other than that we enjoyed the trip of exploring and eating as always! 😀
Read about Day 1 of the trip, Day 2 of the trip, and/or Day 3 of the trip.
I really want some kind of sub sandwich after reading this 😁
Lol… but there wasn’t even a sub sandwich in this blog post XD
I saw the burger and toasties and my mind went to subs lol.
Haha cute! Hope you have some soon to satiate your thoughts! 🙂
