Dec 16, 2018:
I took time out this weekend from my mountain of transcripts to indulge in a game of paintball. (Technically, I ended up finishing everything in time but if I hadn’t gone, I would have finished everything in a more comfortable time frame with less stress, but c’est la vie and these moments with friends are priceless and fleeting — it’s always worth the sacrifice.)
This was my second time playing paintball! My first time was about a decade ago in university with friends somewhere in the west end of the city. I had so much more fun this time at Paintball Nation!
Paintball Nation is located in Mississauga. It’s located inside of an unassuming indoor mall (it reminds me of the one at Downsview). Look for the helpful signs that point you to where the paintball shop is.
Natalie had some discounted admission fees for us, which made for a very sweet deal. (Thank you, Natalie!) We signed the paper waivers and then were shortly given our face masks and paintball guns. We were given a quick run-down of the rules and safety guidelines. Although I didn’t grasp everything that the guide told us, everything was pretty self-explanatory. (Safety is paramount and you’d be stupid to enter the war zone without your face mask on while inside.) We filled up our paintball guns with the paintballs (they look so much like Skittles candy!). There were 8 of us in total which made for a perfect 4 against 4. (The more the merrier in paintball games.)
We played three rounds. It was so fun! I remember the first time I played a decade ago involved a lot of hiding and not too much actual aiming and shooting. I hid the first game too this time but gradually got more gutsy to shoot instead of hide. By the third game, I was actively aiming and shooting. In all, I got 5 hits on me: one headshot, one in my right thigh, one in my right leg calf, one that grazed the top of my head, and one that grazed my butt XD.
We got lucky since another group of paintballers left behind their extra unused paintballs for us to use. It was a good quarter box!
I’d totally play more paintball games in the future. 😀
OMG! Did it hurt?? I played once but I was so scared. I got hit before and it bruised pretty badly. Haha. But someone else got shot in the neck and it looked black. Yikes! I’m glad you had fun!
It hurt, yes. I thought I said this in the blog post? Lol. Yeah, it can be so dangerous when shot at a close distance. Their helmets should include better protection for the back of the head and neck too.
