Sushi & Oyster Bar at Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort

Located at 6380 Fallsview Blvd in Niagara Falls

After watching the Stomp! show at the Avalon Theatre at Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort (which was amazing by the way), we headed for an early dinner at the Sushi & Oyster Bar that was located directly inside the casino.  This meant that if you have young kids or minors, they can’t eat in there.  So exclusive!  This place is usually very pricey, but since our friend had some points to use towards dining at the casino, we saw this as a good opportunity to try out the restaurant.  Mmm, sushi!  Can’t go wrong with that!!

However, I have to say that I was very disappointed with the sushi, sashimi, and rolls at this restaurant.  I wouldn’t recommend coming here for Japanese food especially since they’re quite expensive for what they serve!

It’s very nicely designed inside

Here’s what we had:

15 Pieces of Assorted Sashimi (chef selection) $39.33

We started off with 15 pieces of assorted sashimi (chef selection) at our table.  None of the sashimi looked particularly fresh… the only better tasting one was the salmon sashimi.  The rest of the fish were all cut way too thick and didn’t have much flavour to it.  I was slightly disappointed already.

Our next plate contained 8 nigiri sushi pieces with a maki roll of our choice; we chose the spicy salmon roll.  The sushi pieces were all right; nothing particularly delicious about it, just like how the sashimi was.

8 Pieces of Nigiri Sushi & 1 Maki Roll (spicy salmon) $26.63

I was fairly disappointed with the spicy salmon roll.  There are so many Japanese restaurants that serve this roll but I can only count on one hand how many restaurants actually make it right.  This restaurant didn’t do it right.  The spicy salmon wasn’t even spicy and was also kind of flavourless. 😦  It’s always disappointing when the spicy mayo isn’t even a part of the spicy salmon roll; in my opinion, it’s what makes the spicy salmon roll so delicious!

Lastly, we ordered one more roll to fill up our stomachs and in hopes that the restaurant would redeem itself with this one.  We ordered the eel and avocado maki roll.  The presentation sucked.  It looked like it was falling apart and it didn’t taste good.

Eel and Avocado maki roll. $11.63
Salmon Roe Sushi. $3.63

Also, I wanted to try their sea urchin sushi, but the server informed us that they didn’t have any sea urchin available.  I chose the Salmon Roe sushi instead.  The salmon roe was very soft but I didn’t find it particularly great either.

All in all, I would avoid this place if I were you.  It’s overpriced and the sushi is really poor quality.

From the looks of it and from what you describe, I get the feeling that the Sashimi was probably frozen overnight, which is fine if kept right but clearly that wasn’t the case 😦
