Gal’s Sushi is a long-frequented sushi place that most Markham friends know about and have been to before. It’s a surprise that I haven’t been here in a while to write up a blog post, so here it is! Jessica and I had lunch here on a weekday and I was happy to enjoy their sushi rolls again. One of the things I like about Gal’s is that their sushi rolls are consistently good and tasty. Like Jessica mentioned, their sushi standard is good enough to be delicious but it’s not superior sushi either.
On this visit, I chose the Roll Box in the lunch menu and Jess had the Sashimi Box. I remember back in the day when they used to serve you two decent-sized platters of potatoes and glass noodles as starters. Now, they simply include these “starters” in your bento box. That’s kind of a rip-off. I remember how you could ask for unlimited refills on the starters too back then.
For my Roll Box, I asked to change the California roll into spicy salmon rolls instead. I remember my friends used to always do this so I followed suit as well. Spicy salmon rolls are so delicious anyway and there’s no extra charge if you change over.
The miso soup was average. The salad was very fresh and crunchy! Loved it.
I really liked the crab roll in my Roll Box; more than the spicy salmon roll actually on this day. I tried one of Jess’s California rolls and it was actually very refreshing and good too!
Oh, and how can I forget to mention that upon sitting down, I noticed that they have a 7th year anniversary special of two uni sushi for $4.50! I really like uni sushi and I ordered a portion for myself. The uni sushi was pretty good and it was so smooth and almost melted in my mouth. I still liked the one from Mi-Ne better though since it tasted more substantial.
It doesn’t look like there’s that much food in the bento boxes but we both didn’t end up finishing the lunch portions and packed them home. Mmm, the sushi is sitting in my fridge right now. Can’t wait to eat it. 😀
