Day 5 Dinner of West Caribbean Cruise 2015

Gold Pearl Restaurant dining room — lower level

Day 5 of the dinner cruise was a bit lame because I literally sat by myself to eat.  My dinner partner left me for probably some sleep and my “friends” to my left weren’t considerate enough to invite me over to sit or have someone sit with me so it wouldn’t appear so sad that I was dining alone.  Eating by myself on a cruise ship during dinner was not one of my plans.  Who would have thought.

Being the pleasant person that I am, I sat through the awkward dinner with my 3 appetizers, 1 main, and 1 dessert.

Vine Ripe Beefsteak Tomatoes and Buffalo Mozzarella
-marinated with basil leaves and virgin olive oil

The tomato and mozzarella appetizer was so-so.  The tomato wasn’t very juicy and the slices all together were too large to be tasty.  Carnival Splendor’s food presentation needs some working on too to be considered “fine dining”.

Lasagna Bolognese (starter size)
-baked casserole with layers of pasta, lean ground beef, tomatoes, spinach and mozzarella cheese served on pomodero sauce

The lasagna arrived as a started portion just as I had requested for and was seriously surprisingly delicious!!  The layers of ground beef, pasta, cheese, and ingredients were all layered to perfection.  I hadn’t had lasagna in so long and this was the best one to come along to satisfy my love for lasagna again.  Yum!  This particular dish was to die for! *cheeselover*.

Wild Mushroom Cream Soup
-enhanced with fresh herbs

The wild mushroom soup was thin and wasn’t that great.  There were tiny pieces of mushroom in it but other than that, it was just okay.  I despise wasting food so I finished it anyway.

Everything I chose tonight was very heavy and rich in carbs, so when the cheese pie came (again, cheese lover cannot pass the opportunity to eat a CHEESE pie), I was already stuffed.

The cheese pie was in an oval-shaped bowl and much bigger than I expected.  It also came with two triangular shaped cornmeal rice?  It tasted good for the first two bites but then got really heavy afterwards and tasted dry.

Cinnamon Pumpkin, Squash, Yam, and Cheddar Cheese Pie
-vegetarian entree

The cheese pie had a crusty and substantial crust that was yummy.  There were yams and veggies inside the pie but I didn’t taste any significant cheese flavour.  I hate waiting food but this was too much for me to finish.  Too bad my dining partner missed out on finishing this delicious pie for me.

Warm Chocolate Melting Cake
-served with vanilla ice cream

Dessert was the warm melting chocolate that I had wanted to try since the first day.  It arrived in three containers, with two holding vanilla ice cream with a piece of sharp chocolate sticking out.  As many others have commented on, the sinkhole of melting chocolate was indeed super sweet and tasted nothing but sweet.

Alas, the awkward dinner was over and I retreated to complete the rest of the activities for the night.

One funny part of the night was when the server, Eric, made some napkin creations to make fun of the guys next to me. The little jumping mouse was funny lol.
