…which I hope never comes to fruition.
I dreamt I was at work as a stenographer and instead of being in one room by myself with the group like usual, I was in a mega conference room with others. It had several long tables in it. Each long conference table had a lot of counsel around it and also a court reporter at the end of each one. My group had about 5 people at the table.
At a break, I got up to go use the washroom as usual and when I came back and was talking to another CR at a neighbouring table, I noticed that the witness had leaned over to my laptop and was trying to browse for something on it. I immediately went over and accosted him. In the dream, I was very angry but couldn’t raise my voice to reflect how angry I was. My voice was so small and faint in the dream. I told the witness that he is interfering with the record and that I was the keeper of the record. I made sure the other counsel heard it as well.
It was then that I also found out that my steno machine was completely knocked off its tripod!!!! My steno machine was on the ground. Also, my backup recorder somehow wound up next to my laptop when it should have been in the centre of the table already set up in its own stand. The recorder had been pulled out from it.
I said to the witness and gesturing to the steno machine on the floor, “My steno machine costs $5,000. If there is any damage to it, you will have to pay.” I then picked it off from the ground and noticed that the LED screen had changed colours on the side and that it was damaged. I announced to the group that it may be difficult to continue with the proceedings. I tried to put the steno machine back onto my tripod and it turned out that the machine keys were slightly crooked. I wasn’t sure if I could even write properly on it anymore since the whole thing was a bit slanted. I said I could try continuing on but I wasn’t sure… My laptop was a bit frozen too since I wanted to stop the realtime and re-continue on with a new file. 
Nevertheless, I leaned over to press start on the backup audio device and we went back on the record.

Yup, in the dream lol. I guess I was angry more than anything.
Frightening dream. I do not know if you are a member of NCRA but they have equipment insurance through another company, and the premium is quite small. I bought like 15000 in coverage for less than 300 a year I think (the amount you pay depends on what you seek to cover and for how much). When you get comfortable you might want to seek out an equipment insurance broker. Most insurances will not pay if an item just breaks on its own but they will pay if it is stolen or damaged by another person.
I am by no means telling you that you need a policy and I did not carry one for many years but it might help in the event of a major loss, such as someone breaking your machine.
