A Late Lunch at Symposium Café

Located at 8187 Yonge Street in Thornhill

After another really tiring court reporting session, I had a late lunch at Symposium Café with my mom on a Tuesday afternoon.  There are many locations of this casual cafe all around GTA with the most recent one opening in the Markham area.  I’ve seen several friends post about this restaurant so I was pretty curious to try it out for myself.

This Thornhill location of Symposium Café has a huge patio in the front — you can’t miss it as you must pass by it in order to even enter the restaurant.  The place was very nicely decorated and reminded me of Roman vineyards and flower gardens with a romantic touch.  There weren’t a lot of customers at this late lunch hour time so it provided a nice and quiet lunch for us.

Lots of seating outside for a perfect patio location

Looking through the menu, they offer a lot of sandwiches, soups, salads, burgers, hot dishes, pastas, and more.  We decided on sharing the Crispy Sandwich Wrap and the Jambalaya.

Crispy Chicken Wrap. $12.25
-lightly breaded chicken tender strips garnished with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, honey, mustard sauce and served in a tortilla wrap

The Crispy Sandwich Wrap was not bad.  There were so many vegetables stuffed into the wrap!  It was almost like eating a salad with bits of chicken in it.  I liked how hearty yet healthy it was. 🙂 I also really liked the cream of broccoli soup that came with the wrap (you could choose between fries, house salad, Caesar salad, or soup — cream of broccoli or tomato vegetable) as a side.  My mom thought the soup was a little too salty but since I’m usually a fan of these things, I enjoyed it.

.

Jambalaya. $18.95
-grilled sausage, chicken, shrimp, and vegetables in a spicy tomato sauce over rice

I was rather disappointed with the Jambalaya.  I expected the portion to be bigger as when it was brought to us at the table, it was only a tiny mountain of rice, sausage, shrimp, vegetables in tomato sauce.  There weren’t even that many pieces of chicken and it wasn’t spicy at all even though its description stated that the tomato sauce would be spicy.  For the portion that we got, the price wasn’t worth it.

All in all, this restaurant serves a huge variety of different food.  I can’t say that they’re terrible overall since this was only my first visit but it seems like they are pricier than other restaurants; I’m sure you can go to another place where the food is better and the price is more affordable.

What say you?  Thoughts?  With so many Symposium Cafés in Toronto, I’m sure some of you have been here before.  What did you think about the food and the experience?
