October 5, 2019: We had a little snack at The Sweet Escape Patisserie at the Distillery District during our afternoon visit. Despite the name of the shop, we didn’t get anything sweet from this cafe on this visit. They had plenty of nice-looking cupcakes (with high sky frosting), cakes, macarons, cookies, and pastries on their front-facing counter. They also sell ice cream and lots of other dry goods.
For savory options, they have plenty of sandwiches, quiches, wraps, and salads. We opted for the “Guilt Free Broccoli Salad” and the soup of the day which was a Roasted Sweet Potato soup.
The Broccoli Salad had red onions, raisins, feta, and yogurt in addition to clunks of broccoli florets. It was a chilled salad that was pretty good. I liked the feta. It would have been nice to have some bacon bits in there too. 😀
The Roasted Sweet Potato soup was a little watery, but it was comforting and warm on a breezy day.
Since we were dining in, we had the items served in actual bowls and cutlery, which I liked (environmentally friendly despite it being a small cafe).
The Sweet Escape Patisserie is a great spot for a sweet or savory snack when visiting the Distillery District! They have a lot of tables available in an indoor area (so you can either retreat from the heat on a hot summer’s day or find shelter from the storm on a cold winter’s day).
