Today was a difficult day. Either it’s been said that the first day is the hardest, or the third day, or the fourth day, or the fifth day. With all these different opinions, I guess there’s really no set day to call it a “difficult” day for a detox. For me, Day 5 was a toughie.
I felt so sleepy, a little hungry, and irritated above all for most of the afternoon. Perhaps I didn’t have enough blood sugar going from the limited fruit and veggies that I ate, or perhaps it was the prolonged denial to proteins and carbs that was making me grouchy.
This detox thing is not as easy as it sounds and definitely takes some willpower to power through all 7 days without proteins, carbs, fats, sugars, processed foods, etc. I’m thankful that I have a group of friends to help me through this detox and also for us to support each other while doing it. In our group thread on whatsapp, we’ve been sharing our pictures of the food that we eat, good morning messages, and asking for suggestions on what to cook — there are only so many ways to prepare food when you’re on a detox unfortunately lol.
I also heard that you’re supposed to be rather lethargic for the first two days and then feel more energized for the last few days. We’re on Day 5 and I feel like my energy is slipping away from me day by day lol. I notice that I’ve been sleeping more soundly than ever and I really want to nap in the afternoons due to my lack of energy. I’m also losing weight; my pants are so loose that I really have to consider buying some new pants if I continue to keep the weight off after this detox is over.
On a positive note, has anyone else heard of white asparagus before? I never knew they existed! Like most of you, I’ve only encountered green asparagus stalks before. This is one thing I’ve learned throughout this detox — new vegetables! 🙂
Two more days left! I’m really, really, really looking forward to eating ‘normal’ food again (by that, I mean eating whatever I want) and partaking in my food adventures. This also makes me wonder how I can normally eat so much food but yet still survive with such restricted varieties for the past couple of days. Maybe I’m doing this detox wrong lol. Has anyone else out there done a detox before? What was your experience like? Please share! I’d love to hear what your experience was like. 🙂
