October 8, 2017: Another relaxing getaway means another hotel stay! This time, we stayed in downtown Oshawa at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Oshawa Downtown. I haven’t stayed in a Holiday Inn in some time and I was super impressed with this one!
There was ample onsite parking and it was a low-level building — only about six floors or so. The lobby was spacious, so classy, and chic-looking. In fact, I would say the entire hotel was very chic. Not only was the room clean but it was modern enough with a flair that made it seem extra nice to stay in.
Upon checking in, the process to get our room was easy. The lady at the front was friendly. We were given a slip of paper to put on the car dashboard to show that we were parking there overnight.
Our room was gigantic!!! There was so much space! We had a huge king-sized bed, flat-screen TV, microwave, very good sized mini fridge, coffee machine, desk, sofa armchair with a table, a window facing the side street, and wifi. They must have some airtight walls though because we could barely hear the traffic or street from the window; a very good thing for a restful night.
The bathroom was huge! (In the foyer, there was also a bench for you to sit on while you put on your shoes.) Actually, the bathroom itself was a generous size but the shower was actually very large. It was a walk-in shower and big enough for two people… ;D It was bright and clean and had lots of counter space.
I really liked the room and how chic it was. It was the little details that made the room feel so nice. The bed was super comfortable too.
The next morning, we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast which was situated conveniently on the first level where the lobby was. It was a very comfortable and spacious space for breakfast. It was a self-serve buffet where there were plentiful hot items like scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, and also cinnamon rolls! There was a pancake machine too but I didn’t notice too many people using it. As well, there were dried goods like cereal, breads, oatmeal, and also hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, and milk in the fridge. There were fruits like apples and bananas as well. It was a very thorough complimentary breakfast bar!
I also liked that their coffee and hot water station was available during the entire 24 hours that we were staying there. It meant that during the night if you wanted a hot water or tea, you could easily go downstairs to get some.
They had a swimming pool and fitness centre on the first floor too. The fitness centre didn’t have any weights to Ken’s dismay.
Now that I have refreshed my memory on Holiday Inn hotels, they are so nice and fancy! I definitely will consider them for future stays if the price is right.
