hiiii!
it turns out that wordpress might not work in china after all. boo. i’m also not using to typing using the qwerty keyboard for more than 5 mins since i’ve been accustomed to writing everything on my stenograph in the last 3-4 years. hence all the lower case letters since i’m writing this up quickly before i get approximately 5 ish hours of sleep πΒ
let me start from the beginning since this seems a little disjointed. all 25 of the DiSCOVER clan met up at terminal 1, gate E on tuesday, july 16 at noon. we all were checked in and dropped off our luggage, took a group photo with too many cameras (Wendy said, ‘ it’s like being at a wedding!’), had some lunch, and boarded the plane. plane took off at 2:55 p.m. the flight was ok. see my post on the food documentary i watched which was great π couldn’t sleep well since uncomfy seats.
arrived in beijing at 4 pm exactly. saw so many mountains from the plane landing into the airport runway. collected our luggage without problems (yay). then we boarded our tour bus. to my surprise, not as hot and smoggy and unbreatheable as i thought it would be. we went straight to dinner. we were in a traffic for a small bit of time. it wasn’t too bad. after dinner, we went back to hotel, debriefed, and the group of us went out to mcdonald’s to check out what the China version served. mandy and i were disappointed to see that the nicely imaged photo of what we thought was a dessert was actually just a drink. it turned out ok though since it was a very refreshing one. π
back to hotel at 10 ish. we all crowded around the lobby to try to get wifi on our phones but it was too slow so we headed back to our rooms. i tried the router thingy i bought to connect to the hotel’s wifi via phone cord, but it didn’t work either. that’s when i discovered an open network that did work! yay! i could go on gmail and google and even my work email, but no wordpress. sigh π¦ not really sure how i’m going to update my blog anyway while i’m away…. oh well.
excited for china and to see more. going to peking university tomorrow and bird’s nest and olympic stadium π
(Edit: I think I might have found a way to bypass the Chinese WordPress blockers and that’s how this post was posted just now. HEHEHEHE. This just made my night :D. Planning to upload a post every day if possible π If not, I’ll post them when I return back to Toronto. Either way, I have a stash of blog posts on my phone waiting to be posted)
