After our amazing day of training and learning, we went to Win Yeung Chinese Restaurant in Haliburton for dinner. We called ahead of time to let this Chinese restaurant know that up to 20 people were on the way (otherwise, being a small town, they might not be ready for all of us all at once). It took around 15 minutes for us to drive there from our villa at Pinestone Resort.
From the outside, it really wasn’t much of a store front. It was just a solid medal container with a sign shining bright in the night. However, when you walked in, it was a very clean and open rectangular dining room.
Several of us were very amused by the paper placemats that they had. It showed the Chinese Zodiac and the fortunes for 2015 for each Zodiac animal. It was funny because every single Zodiac’s fortune contained something very negative. The direct Chinese to English translations also were amusing to read.
We decided on ordering the “Dinners for 6” combo together with a separate order of House Special Lemon Chicken to share together. Raahim doesn’t eat pork so he ordered something separate for himself.
Considering we were in Haliburton, this Chinese restaurant serves more of the “western” style Chinese food. You can’t expect them to serve authentic Chinese dishes because most of the residents in this area appreciate more of the western style Chinese food instead of the authentic kind. Thus, this Chinese restaurant serves items like spring rolls, sweet and sour pork, and lots of fried dishes that are distinctly western Chinese food.
Here’s what we got!
These Egg Rolls were deep fried and contained bean sprouts in it. It’s funny that they’re called Egg Rolls because there’s actually no egg inside. XD They were actually really good!
These fried chicken wings were really good!
Mmm, these were actually so good!
This pork chop was also so delicious!! It was reminiscent of the authentic Chinese ones that I’ve had before and love. 🙂
After dinner, we were served with these fortune cookies! Typical!
It was a very efficient dinner because the food came so quickly after we arrived. Us calling them before we arrived probably helped them prepare anything they needed to cook for a big group of people. If you’re looking for some good solid Chinese food in Haliburton, this place is probably it! 🙂
