Planeta Mexico in Markham [Defunct]

Planeta Mexico food

Planeta Mexico located at 187 Main Street in Markham

Last night, Ken and I went to dinner at Planeta Mexico in Markham.  By its name, it’s clearly a Mexican restaurant and an “authentic Mexican cuisine” at that!  I had heard about this restaurant from my friend Angel who raved about it on her social media feed.  Thus, when I had passed by this restaurant when walking by on Main Street Unionville previously, I had always been intrigued to check it out.   Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Security

Big Buddha, Hong Kong

The Big Buddha, Hong Kong. January 2012

In January 2012, we were in Hong Kong and we visited the Big Buddha at Ngong Ping, Lantau Island.  I was looking through my photos and I’m sure that I visited the Big Buddha in July 2009 when I was there but browsing through my photos, I realize that I didn’t capture any photos of the Big Buddha — it must have been under construction that year otherwise I’m sure I would have seen photos in my album…   Continue reading

Private Tasting at Happy All-Day Breakfast & Lunch

All-Day Breakfast & Lunch

All-Day Breakfast & Lunch located at 17665 Leslie St, Unit #3 in Newmarket

I had the pleasure to be invited to Happy All-Day Breakfast & Lunch located in Newmarket to try out their restaurant.  Happy All-Day Breakfast & Lunch is a family owned and operated all-day breakfast and lunch restaurant (as the name implies!) at 17665 Leslie Street, Unit #3.  It’s easily accessible via Highway 404 and is a easy-to-find yet fairly nondescript restaurant from the exterior.   Continue reading

Firehall After Dark (A Yelp Ladies Night) at Old Firehall Confectionery

chocolate verrine sample

Old Firehall Confectionery located at 170 Main Street Unionville in Markham

Last Wednesday, I attended the Firehall After Dark, a Yelp Elite Ladies only event, at Old Firehall Confectionery.  This was a really great event just for the Yelp Elite ladies to enjoy some sweets, alcohol, and lots of chocolate at this popular and well-known confectionery shop (there was a separate Yelp Elite event for the gentlemen too that same night).

Old Firehall Confectionery is one of the major draws at Main Street Unionville in Markham where the entire store is lined with sweets and sugar treats fit for any age.   Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Dense

 dense tree branches

Tree in Hong Kong. November 2014

I was trying to look for another photo to feature for this week’s challenge but this one caught my eye right away and it’s completely dense!  Look at all of those leaves and branches all intertwining together.  You can’t even see where the start of a branch is and where it ends. XD  This photo was taken when we were in Hong Kong and I was taking notice of these big trees that were on the side of the road as we were strolling.   Continue reading

Corks Winebar & Eatery

Corks Winebar & Eatery

Corks Winebar & Eatery located at 19 Queen St at Niagara-on-the-Lake

Before we left Niagara-on-the-Lake, we had a late lunch/early dinner at Corks Winebar & Eatery.  The storefront of this restaurant already piqued my interest when we were strolling down Queen Street in this little tourist town because it looked so modern compared to the other storefronts and inviting.  Thus, we walked in without hesitation (or even looking at the menu) to try out their food.   Continue reading

Hotel Review: Old Stone Inn Boutique Hotel

Old Stone Inn Boutique Hotel

Old Stone Inn Boutique Hotel located at 6080 Fallsview Blvd in Niagara Falls

Last weekend, we stayed at the Old Stone Inn Boutique Hotel when we were spending the weekend away in Niagara Falls.  This hotel was one that popped up on Groupon when we were briefly looking for a hotel to make reservations for for our trip.  Like many of the other hotels listed, this also included breakfast and dine-in vouchers, and wine tasting and chocolate tour tickets.  What made this hotel stand out though was its affordable pricing, close location to the Falls, and really rustic and unique-looking interiors!   Continue reading

Wine Tasting at Konzelmann Estate Winery

Konzelmann Estate Winery

Konzelmann Estate Winery located at 1096 Lakeshore Rd in Niagara-on-the-Lake

After our brief stint at the Chocolate F/X chocolate factory, we proceeded along the route towards Niagara-on-the-Lake and visited Konzelmann Estate Winery.  The hotel stay was so awesome in that we also received a free voucher to go wine tasting at this winery!  I was looking forward to it since there are so many wineries in Niagara and Niagara-on-the-Lake, of which many are well-known in Ontario.   Continue reading
