I’ve been doing a lot more exercise lately, both to improve my own health and also because I’m finding out more and more fun ways to work out. I’ve still been going to my Zumba classes weekly (sometimes 2-3 times a week) just because it’s so darn fun. I know almost all the dance moves in the songs now compared to when I first started and was flailing around all over the place. Dancing to the beat of high energy songs is just way too much fun. I’ve also been increasing the amount of time that I spend on a treadmill every time I step on it and in the middle of completing my 5-class punch card fitness classes at Flirty Girl Fitness with a bunch of my girlfriends.
One of my friends is a devoted bootcamp go-er and has been bugging me to attend for a while now. I’ve been shrugging it off ever since she first asked me; not because I was disinterested but because I wasn’t as motivated to do fitness classes as I am now. I also feel that I’m a lot more fit now than a couple of months ago. Yay me!
I arrived at the 500 Alden Road location on a bright and early 8:45 a.m. morning and met up with my friend in front of the studio. I felt a lot of nerves and a little excitement since I had heard that the Go Girl Bootcamps class was extremely intense. My friend gave me a lot of encouragement and told me that it would be okay, that everyone there is really friendly, and that if I felt that I reached my limit, I could go slower and not feel stressed to continue (no matter how loudly the coach shouted). I was very curious to see what the class would be like and knew that if I’ve survived doing several high cardio Zumba classes (despite the Bootcamp coach warning me it would be nothing like Zumba) and that super intense Hottie Body Boxing class at FGF a few weeks ago, I should be able to do this class. I even had to sign a form before I started stating that I had no known heart illnesses/physical activity restrictions.
Lol, this post is turning out longer than I thought. Okay, so pretty much the whole class is run as circuits. So after the coach Rosie showed us briefly what to do in each circuit — this also served as the warm-up — we were divided into groups of 5-6. Working out to the music that lasted for 90~ seconds at a time, we alternated between each station and did the 2 activities in each station with a few seconds of break in between. Each station targeted on a specific muscle group. For example, thighs in the station when you lunge forward and hop on one leg and alternate; biceps in the wall sit; abdominal muscles with the big yoga ball. The stations went by quicker than I thought, and before I knew it, 45 minutes had passed and it was time to cool down with some more muscle toning. This part was more difficult for me since I wasn’t used to stretching out various muscles in my body like the other ladies in the studio were.
In the end, I felt that the intensity of cardio wasn’t as extreme as some of my Zumba classes and that now-infamous Hottie Body Boxing class. I was still able to breathe and talk without being too out of breath. However! The effectiveness of that one Bootcamp class was amazing. I’m writing this blog post one day after the workout and both of my thighs have been so sore all day. Even when I laugh, my ab muscles hurt. This means that the circuits really helped tone up and work out the intended body parts. I’m impressed and very happy with the results! My schedule for the next little while is going to be demanding with a new fitness class in the works, otherwise I would actually consider joining Go Girl Bootcamps. Rosie offered me the 4-week (includes personal coaching and weigh-ins) and 3-week unlimited class options after the class, but since I won’t have the luxury of attending class every single day, it’s probably not worth my money at this time to sign up for it. I definitely wouldn’t mind more Bootcamp classes in general though. I wish there was a drop-in package as well.
Anyway, ending my long post now lol. Short summary: Go Girl Bootcamps works!
