December 21, 2017: I finally made it here to The Cups! Despite them opening a second location here at First Markham Place and me living so close to it, this was my first time here. Natalie and I had one of the best foodie chats here and I was so glad to be able to try The Cups’s bingsu for the first time and see what the hype was all about.
We shared the Injeolmi Bingsu, the original bingsu flavour. It had Korean glutinous rice flour, mochi, and sliced almonds all atop a bowl of finely shaved ice (actually milk).
(It took about 10 to 15 minutes to be ready after ordering at the counter.)
The only similar one I’ve had and can compare it to is the one from Dear & Fro. I found that this one at The Cups had much more glutinous rice flour and thus my first bite had it all over my mouth and I had to have a second bite of the shaved ice in order to ‘melt’ it a bit. Overall, it was good and I especially liked the chewy mochi. I found that the bingsu from Dear & Fro was a tiny bit more milkier.
If I find myself here again next time, I will try their Tiramisu one which actually has a slice of tiramisu cake on top of it!
I have never tried it but it looks so delicious!!
Would you want to try it? Are you a fan of cold icy desserts like this, Grace?
Yeah! I like Asian deserts much more than Western desserts (such as demetres). I find those too sweet.
I like Taiwanese desserts!!! Hehe. How about you, Karen?
Yea, most western desserts are very sweet although I will always prefer a slice of good chocolate cake over anything else haha. I like warm desserts over cold ones actually. So shaved ice isn’t something that I really crave, but I like to try it for the trends to see what the hype is. I like the hot Chinese desserts that are nourishing and good for you. 😀
