February 9, 2018: After the ice dragon boat race was over, we searched for a food place around Dow’s Pavilion and Little Italy in Ottawa. I had noticed that there was a significant showing for African and Caribbean restaurants in Ottawa so Yelp informed us of Fumi’s African Caribbean Restaurant and Groceries.
It was a small and homey restaurant. The restaurant and dining room in particular seemed furnished from a house.
I ordered the Jerk Chicken platter while Ken got the Patty Platter and Chickpea and Potato Roti.
The Patty Platter came first with two patties and had a side salad. It seemed like one was a vegetarian patty while the other was a beef one. Both were spicy with the beef one being more spicy and a bit dry. I liked the vegetarian one. It was quite good!
My Jerk Chicken Platter was a great portion! It was a huge chicken drumstick and was seasoned so well. It definitely satisfied my salty taste buds. The best part was how smooth and juicy the chicken was. :9
It came with a huge helping of rice and beans. I enjoyed how they made it. It was a bit spicy too. It seemed just as authentic in taste as the jerk chicken. :9
The Chickpea and Potato Roti was a big size and came with the same side salad as the other two dishes. This was a bit dry unfortunately since both the potatoes and chickpeas in general as ingredients tend to be drying in nature. I liked the chewy roti skin though. :9

Chickpea and Potato Roti. $8.99
-a thin shell of flour and dhal (ground yellow split peas) with potatoes and chickpeas filling
During our stay here, we observed three other tables (one of which had 5 diners or 8 diners in total) all order the soup that the restaurant had specifically on Saturdays. It was a Caribbean soup that appeared to have lots of veggies. It definitely made me want to try it too if that many customers ordered it. Yum :9.
There was a single flat screen TV in the dining room that was showing a soccer match at the time.
All in all, I loved the food here. My Jerk Chicken Platter was so big that I packed the rest of it home to enjoy.
