It begins… Chinese Consulate dinner

Tonight I went to the Chinese Consulate dinner with the participants and committee members for the DiSCOVER 2013 program.  The highlight of the dinner was to meet Deputy Consul General Zhang Meifang and Mon Sheong Foundation First Vice Chair Frank Chau was the gracious one to treat all 40ish of us to a wonderful 10-course dinner at the Dragon Dynasty restaurant in Scarborough   Long story short, I applied in January (and got in) to this program in hopes to gain more knowledge about Chinese culture, make new friends, learn to be a community leader, give back to the community, and to get to go on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to China!   Continue reading →

Reflections

Workaholic

I’m such a nerd.  I just finished working 12 hours and I’m home and I’m excited to start up my Case Case software and my answer keys and my Excel spreadsheet and my doodle paper in hand to start marking the rest of my students’ dictations!!!  I have 38 to mark.  Let’s see how many I can get in before I sleep tonight.  Time is now 10:44 p.m.  Ready?  GO!   Continue reading →

Speed test congratulatory e-mails

Whenever I open my work e-mail and see 20+ unopened e-mails, I know instantly that there have been students who have passed their speed tests.  Whenever a student completes and passes a test (you need 95% minimum accuracy to pass), an e-mail is sent out to all of the staff members at the school.  Each of us then sends a congratulatory e-mail to the amazing student for a job well done.  I just replied to 5 of them.  And you know what, all five of these were my students that I taught in Phoenix Theory. ^-^ Continue reading →

Everything durian

Chocolate-covered durians. Durians are called the “king of fruits”. Mmm dark chocolate… 🙂

This morning, I ate durian chocolates for breakfast.   Yup, you read that right.  When I went to Malaysia, one of the stops was to the Cocoa Boutique & Chocolate Gallery.  Here you could try everything chocolate — Malaysia is famous for their chocolate-covered fruits.

Job Shadowing Jade King on the Hong Kong Lamma Boat Inquiry

The following is a detailed recount of the experience that I had job shadowing Jade King.

Last year when I met up with stenographer extraordinaire Jade King, I wasn’t able to job shadow her as planned. Instead, we were able to partake in some productive discussions about steno: realtime work, professional versus student machines, finger spelling words, etc. It was the first time I met Jade and she had opened up my eyes to a lot that I didn’t know about in the steno world. A quiet weekend

Breakfast burrito

Mmmm. This morning on the way to work, I stopped by McDonald’s on a whim to pick up two of their breakfast burritos. I haven’t had these in years! So warm and yummy as I remember them to be. Does anyone like these as much as I do? I seriously think these and the Sausage McMuffins are the two best items on the menu. Speaking of McDonald’s, the ones in Hong Kong have fried chicken wings that they call “McWings”. In my honest opinion, I truly think they’re the best wings IN THE WORLD. Continue reading →
