September 23, 2017: For dinner at night, I took advantage of an afternoon tea special that I happened to glance at and which struck itself in my memory banks.
We were passing by this restaurant, Chin Yip Ramen (千葉拉麵), when I spotted their propped up menu which loudly displayed their Afternoon Tea special. It was just $38 HKD for a bowl of ramen plus a drink! Their Afternoon Tea special was from 2 to 6 p.m.
Right after we finished our errands, I looked at the time and it was five minutes to six. We went straight to the restaurant and asked if they still honoured the Afternoon Tea specials. The server acknowledged it and we placed our orders right away. Yay! Good food deals.
I consulted OpenRice after this and found no particular highlights at this restaurant. It definitely wasn’t authentic Japanese ramen but Hong Kong styled ramen.
Mine was Fried Chicken Cutlet with Ramen in Pork Bone Soup (香煎雞扒拉麵). My mom ordered the Pork Cartilage Bone with Udon in Pork Bone Soup (猪軟骨鳥冬).
It was a large bowl of noodles! Definitely a good deal. I loved how the meaty Chicken Cutlet was so tender and smooth; I was impressed. The ramen noodles were decent. The pork bone soup base was a tad salty.
I tried the Pork Cartilage Bone and thought it wasn’t the true pork cartilage types I’ve eaten before. The cartilage was too hard to eat up and swallow. The udon noodles had a texture similar to plain noodles.
Afternoon Tea specials are such a steal!
